Yeah I don't get how this sad little weirdo thinks he can block anything. It's BBC property, surely. And yes I seem to recall him trying it on with the TARDIS ten years later. That didn't go well. Sounds like the guy needs to get a life... Your daddy just wasn't that important, luv. Deal with it.

Seems the Official Doctor Who YouTube channel have put all clips from AUC on private... I've been giving my Doctor Who dvds away since the Collection box sets have started, but thankfully one of the ones I haven't said goodbye to is An Unearthly Child. I think that story is staying right under my wing for the foreseeable. I gave away all my DVD’s from Davison onwards because of the Collection sets and the fact they were on Britbox. Then they removed them from Britbox. Fortunately most of those episodes have been released, but it shows you you can’t take anything for granted. How on to everything until it’s adequately replaced I say, you never know what spanner is going to clog the works.

It's going to be quite some time before I'm ready to start upgrading my entire huge DOCTOR WHO collection (all recorded off PBS) to disc. When I do... I'll probably only go after Blu-Rays. It's not about quality. It's about TIME.

I do think the pilot is an extrememly good episode. I'm so glad it exists (unlike 90% of the 1st season of THE AVENGERS).
But I F***ing hate that 3-part caveman story.
I rank it DOWN there with "The Web Of Fear", "The Mutants", "Planet of the Daleks", "The Monster Of Peladon", "Four To Doomsday", "Timelash", etc.
If I wanna watch a story about cave-people, I'd rather watch one with Carole Landis, Raquel Welch, Victoria Vetri, or Shelley Long.
The first 6 seasons of DOCTOR WHO never got to America (at least, the Philadelphia area) until around 1984 or 85 (I forget which). Watching the first 13 episodes (the first 3 stories), I had the overwhelming feeling that Irwin Allen somehow HAD to have seen the show. It looked and felt so much like the first 5 episodes of LOST IN SPACE. Except, on a non-existent budget. I'm 100% convinced DOCTOR WHO also influenced THE TIME TUNNEL. (Maybe even LAND OF THE GIANTS, though I can't stand that show.)
"Dr. Zachary Smith" (and, "The Robot") were VERY late additions to LIS, and do not appear at all in the original un-aired pilot. While there are significant differentces between "Dr. Smith" and "The Doctor", Jonathan Harris' character seems very much inspired by William Hartnell's. It must have been a shock for American audiences to see the earliest Hartnell episodes in the mid-80s. He's so thoroughly UNLIKABLE, DEVIOUS, etc. And WHY exactly, does he decided to KIDNAP Ian & Barbara, when he didn't want them around, and was planning to leave Earth anyway?
It's such a nice moment at the end of episode 13 when he actually APOLOGIZES to Barbara for his horrible behavior-- and they become friends. Which also makes it such a tragedy that "Marco Polo" is among the missing. Apparently, it was THE story everyone involved most wanted to do.
That 2-parter after "The Daleks" was apparently planned because, as with countless series, the plan was to do 13 weeks. If the show failed to gain an audience, the 13th episode would be the FINALE. Fortunately, the story Sydney Newman DIDN'T want to do, "The Daleks", was what saved-- and MADE-- the show.
Over the course of its 1st season, LOST IN SPACE also saw "Dr. Smith" slowly evolve, from a genuine villain, to a hopelessly neurotic slacker. Jonathan Harris initiated this himself, as he feared his character might be killed off at some point. Irwin Allen, seeing what he was up to, told him, "Keep it up!" Harris began writing HIS OWN DIALOGUE. I only recently figured out that this means he was also writing The Robot's dialogue. In that comedy team, Smith was the "straight man". He was Bud Abbott to The Robot's Lou Costello. The Robot ALWAYS got the best lines.
For the first year, Ian Chesterton was the hero of the show. It wasn't until the 2nd half of "The Rescue", after Susan had left, and The Doctor had taken a long nap, that The Doctor REALLY started to become the hero of the show.
Several people I worked with who watched DOCTOR WHO regularly, told me they quit on Hartnell after only 1 or 2 stories. A shame. They didn't stick around to see what his character became over time.

FFS I don't understand how the son of some hack who wrote four fecking eps as a jobbing writer can disrupt these things. He's a grasping nutter. Just tell him to feck off and we'll see you in court.

2 words: "PHYSICAL MEDIA".
I just ordered a complete series on region-free BLU-RAY today. It was available on either DVD or BR, but I know from experience, that DVDs from England DON'T play at the correct speed in America. Blu-Rays DO!

It's all gotten rather demented on there now. Earlier Ian was trying to find and contact Stef Coburn's sister which turned out well...
