I've given this a full 10, how can you not? If you watch it today it still immediately transports you back to 1963, it's atmospheric, bold and mysterious Yeh, having just read your post I've changed my vote from a 9 to a 10. I've always loved all 4 parts, and I think it's an incredible start to the series. It's a story I make a point of watching once a year and I never grow tired of it. It's crammed with atmosphere. Given I love this story as much as I do, your post made me think about how I could begin to score it any less than a full-blooded 10.

It's only just occurred to me that I didn't watch this until 1981 or thereabouts, as my first viewing of the series was halfway through the first Daleks story (The Escape) and that was eventful enough I also have changed my rating from 9/10 to 10/10 simply due to the first episode which as everyone here says, is truly awesome even now! Interesting comments from William Russell as regards the comedy in rehearsals for the rest of it but utter seriousness when recording and i think that's what made me comment earlier how it wasn't really 'just' a kids show, but serious drama. Pat Troughton remains I think my favourite Doctor due to his subtlety and range but have to say that William Hartnell all but commands your attention and he really did create and establish the role so very well, gawd bless him...

I really like Troughton (he was my first Doctor) but I prefer Hartnell. Billy's Doctor was wise and good-natured but also cantankerous and a bit scary at times. The first part of An Unearthly Child is incredible and while the following three caveman episodes are not quite as impressive, they are still intriguing. Glad you upgraded your rating!

Mightn't it explain why Nigel Robinson's audiobook has been locked in limbo all this time.

Mightn't it explain why Nigel Robinson's audiobook has been locked in limbo all this time. I'm confused. How come it talks about not allowing the BBC to use when An Unearthly Child is on Britbox already? Am I getting my wires crossed here? And will this effect a release of the Complete Season 1 Blu-ray boxset?

And will this effect a release of the Complete Season 1 Blu-ray boxset? No idea. Perhaps it's something that could affect future showings and stuff but not any pre-existing deals to show it or whatever that haven't lapsed. Dunno how it works. All I know is this Stef Anthony Coburn seems a rather embittered and weird individual if his Tweets are anything to go by. He tried it on about 10 years ago: "Who owns the Tardis? Son of man who invented Doctor Who's time machine is challenging BBC over breach of copyright

Mightn't it explain why Nigel Robinson's audiobook has been locked in limbo all this time. Stef Coburn reckons he's been informed by the BBC via email that The Tribe of Gum won't be included in their iPlayer list. We'll see...

Seems the Official Doctor Who YouTube channel have put all clips from AUC on private... I've been giving my Doctor Who dvds away since the Collection box sets have started, but thankfully one of the ones I haven't said goodbye to is An Unearthly Child. I think that story is staying right under my wing for the foreseeable.
