Here's conformation of the return to London in relation to And Mother Makes Three. The situation concerning the return of ATV/ITC programmes is interesting as up to 1964 ATV had a wholly owned Australian subsidiary ATV Australia Pty. Ltd. It had holdings in a number of Australian commercial stations and was sold off by Lew Grade in 1964 to John Fairfax and Son who outbid Sir Frank Packer's Consolidated Press. In a 1964 newspaper article it states: ATV Australia Pty. Ltd., wholly owned by Associated TV Ltd. of England owns ten per cent of QTQ, Brisbane, five per cent of NSW Adelaide, seven per cent of RTN Richmond River, Northern NSW and six per cent of BTV Ballarat. ATV Australia Ltd. also owns Broadcasting Associated Pty. Ltd. and 44 per cent of Radio 2GB Sydney. These two companies own 50 per cent of Young Broadcasters Pty. Ltd. which owns 24 per cent of CBN television (Central NSW). With the subsidiary operating in Australia it seems reasonable that it might have handled programme sales for ATV/ITC, as it would have been much simpler contacting an Australian company rather than dealing direct with the UK.

As well as watching Shadows I’m rewatching the Brighton Series of Public Eye.
Watched the first two episodes and I still think they’re excellent.

More about the Australian co-production of Public Eye that of course never happened.

I was originally going to post this here, as I do all of my research stuff, but I decided to post it on Moandas first to get the missing episodes thread back talking about missing episodes and not complaining about RTD etc. some posters on there have expressed their annoyance at that sort of stuff creeping in there in the past.
Anyway, I found references to Australian censor files for three episodes of Public Eye (or possibly only two). The extant episode Nobody Kills Santa Claus was viewed and assessed in 1968 and again in 1969, whilst another extant episode Don’t Forget You’re Mine was viewed and assessed in 1969. An episode referred to as Public Eye - Audition Tape (which could have been Don’t Forget You’re Mine) was viewed and assessed earlier in 1969.
Naturally I’m interested to see if the censors view may have somehow affected the sale of the series.
Two later episodes shown here were censored. Perhaps the earlier ones were rated AO when the ABC were looking for an A and that scuppered any prospect of a sale.
I wonder if those two episodes that still exist from the earlier series are audition returns from Australia. I’m not sure when the bulk of the first three series were destroyed, but it’s a bit of a coincidence that these two episodes just so happen to be surviving episodes, and if Australia had purchased these early series of Public Eye (the ABC purchased from Series 5 onwards) would more episodes from the first three series have survived?
Anyway I’ll get copies of those Public Eye files at some stage, although Doctor Who still remains my priority as far as censorship files are concerned.
I think I’m doing some speculating here, but if it’s good enough for some people then it’s good enough for me.

Thanks for that. I did have a recollection that Verity Lambert had some involvement in their junking. 1976 is fairly late, as Thames stuff was generally returned fairly promptly. It’s still a huge coincidence that two of the episodes the ABC auditioned still survive.

Nobody Kills Santa Claus and Don't Forget You're Mine exist as 16mm telerecordings but the other three ABC episodes found at the BFI are on 405-line monochrome videotape.
(Your post of 2nd June 2022 re "And Mother Makes Three" on page 1 of this thread has evidence of ABC returning audition prints to the UK).

(Your post of 2nd June 2022 re "And Mother Makes Three" on page 1 of this thread has evidence of ABC returning audition prints to the UK). Thank you very much Black Orchid. That was the type of thing I was searching for. It’s possible that Public Eye was hawked around the commercial networks as well, but I can’t seem them sitting in Bond for more than 7 years. Perhaps they were used as audition episodes and were stored somewhere else other than Teddington. It does seem to suggest they are the same episodes as the ones viewed by the ABC and the censors at the end of the 60’s. I wouldn't mind betting that the episode marked ‘audition tape’ is Don’t Forget You’re Mine. It’s also curious that the censors viewed the episodes twice. It’s not normal for an audition. I think I’ll see how much the audition tape one is first before I get the other ones. Banned Doctor Who like The Daemons remains my priority though.
