Public Eye is an excellent series. I’d recommend it to anyone who likes quality TV.
It’s such a shame a sizeable chunk of the early ABC series is missing. We do have all the Thames stuff (very much like Callan in many ways).

I was too young to watch it on transmission, didn't have cable when the colour episodes were repeated on UK Gold in the early 1990's. I remember the DVD reviews in the noughties in various magazines. I saw my first episode on Talking Pictures TV in 2021 and was blown away by how good it was.
The DVD's sold poorly but due to increased interest thanks to the reruns they now cost a fortune. I managed to get the four Thames boxsets for a total of £120.00 (£30.00 each is cheap). These DVD's were probably about £20.00 when released so they are the VW Campervan's of DVD's.
As for the Boxset A Box Named Frank shown above - forget it unless you are willing to pay silly money.

The ABC didn’t seem to like Frank much, although they changed their mind later.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. I only found this memo because it was misfiled in a BBC Light Entertainment file. Unlike the BBC (who had an office in Sydney) the ITV stations required their material to be sent back to London.

From the Callan thread: Chris Perry MEF 2007: "Hi Verity Lambert had no dealings with any wiping of Thames' shows. Callan, Armchair Theatre, Public Eye etc began as ABC shows and the videotapes of these shows were kept complete at Teddington until 1976 when the archive ran out of room. Since they were Drama Dept tapes the archive decided to junk them to make space for Thames shows on their shelves and sent a memo to Verity asking if she wanted to keep the shows. She said no so they were crushed. Hope that clarifies the situation. Verity was unaware they were the only surviving copies, in those days producers didnt consider such implications." A 2008 thread from the MEF: Chris Perry on Callan and other ABC shows including Verity Lambert's role in the junking of the ABC archive in 1976. missingepisodes.proboards.com/thread/3938/callan-old-shows-continued-thames
