"As long as he does the job, he can wear what face he likes".
Watching The Three Doctors back in 1972, I loved the idea that my Doctors (Troughton and Pertwee) had to team up to face a god-like enemy (for me, a comics fan, this was like two Marvel superheroes joining forces to take on one power-mad super villain. The Marvel connection is made further by the Target novelization cover, inspired by Fantastic Four Issue 49). I also enjoyed seeing the two Doctors getting occasional advice and insults from a strange old man (my mum explained he was the first Doctor Who, before my time). Best of all, Omega took off his mask and - existential horror! - there was absolutely nothing underneath. This scene freaked me out a bit but I was also morbidly fascinated by it. By far, my favourite multi-Doctor story. 10/10

One of my favourite Target novelizations, with a superb cover by Chris Achilleos.

For some reason, I always thought this was the Sonic Screwdriver that Pert used in this story. Put it down to poor memory/poor eyesight on my part I expect.

Loving this all over again and I hope Ncuti has had a chance to watch these three wonderful actors at work (r.i.p.)! Wonderful times for the series back then... I would've loved to have seen this story as a child when it first went out. It must have felt magical seeing all three original Doctors in the same story. It's such a groundbreaking 4 episodes, and yet now it's taken for granted. Up until The Three Doctors was transmitted the thought of having more than one Doctor in the same story would have just been mind-blowing for the devoted fan. Would anyone have even thought it could happen? I remember watching it in 1981 as part of The Five Faces season and balancing the tape-recorder infront of the TV so I could listen to it again and again, lol.

The Three Doctors was the story I was looking forward to seeing most from The Five Faces... season. After years of seeing clips of it on the likes of Blue Peter and reading bits in magazines and stuff I was really hyped up about it. I taped it too. I can still remember my fingers trembling with excitement on the record/play buttons ready to press down hard and start recording, hoping desperately there wasn't going to be any f*** ups. Anyway managed to tape all four episodes on a TDK C-90 cassette by editing out end titles and reprises and kept Mum quiet whilst taping it which was no mean feat I'll tell you. Had that tape for many years and listened to it so much I knew all the lines off by heart.

I was sixteen when this was first transmitted (legally still a child in the UK but not 'very young' obviously). Yes, it was great to see all three of them together and the vibe of 'two and three' arguing all the time and needing initially to be reigned in by the first is timeless and I watched this week with a tear in my eye. The three leads obviously enjoyed the role and I suspect working together too (a shame if Wm. Hartnell couldn't make the studio recordings, but they got together in costume later?)
I know I'm an oldie now, but re-watching these classic stories plus other prized now classic cult TV from this era makes me so thankful I was there to see so much of it first time round and also so thankful that missing episodes of all manner of shows are trickling back still. Also thankful for the restoration team and their work on re-combining colour and B&W plus general sharpening and cleaning up of the images for a new world of higher quality and larger TV pictures
