The Adventure Game (1980-1986).
Two celebrities and a member of the public take a trip to the planet Arg - sometimes willingly, sometimes not - and attempt to work their way through a series of puzzles set by the alien Argonds.

Season 1
Episode 1. Episode aired May 24, 1980. Elizabeth Estensen and Fred Harris are the first space travellers to visit Arg, along with member of the public Mark Dugdale. Can they collect the crystals needed to return home, when they're being "helped" by the Argonds?
Episode 2. Episode aired May 31, 1980. Liza Goddard, Michael Rodd and member of the public Stephen Cox faced evaporation in an episode that is officially missing from the BBC archives.
Episode 3. Episode aired Jun 7, 1980. James Burke, Maggie Philbin and guest Pat Cater are the three time travellers trying to win back their crystals to return home.
Episode 4. Episode aired Jun 14, 1980. Actress Denise Coffey and Sky at Night presenter Dr. Garry Hunt are joined by Toby Freeman on their trip to Arg. But while Toby was the non-celebrity for the week, he went on to be a games consultant on the series.
Episode 5. Episode aired Jun 21, 1980. Paul Darrow and Lesley Judd's trip to Arg with guest Robert Malos was wiped from the BBC archives. However, a domestic, off-air recording was obtained in order to bring their adventure to the DVD release.
Season 2
Episode 1. Episode aired Nov 2, 1981. The second series has some new elements, with creator Patrick Dowling greeting the contestants on Earth before they travel to Arg. There's also Lesley Judd, who has remained on Arg as a mole, and, most famously of all, the Vortex.
Episode 2. Episode aired Nov 9, 1981. Member of the public David Gale takes a trip to Arg, and finds himself under suspicion of being the Mole by fellow travellers David Yip and Madeline Smith. This edition was wiped by the BBC and only exists as off-air copies.
Episode 3. Episode aired Nov 16, 1981. With the Rubik's Cube craze of the time, Cube expert David Singmaster enters as a celebrity, alongside Nationwide presenter Sue Cook. Joining them on their trip to Arg is marketing executive Philip Sheppard.
Episode 4. Episode aired Nov 23, 1981. The last of four episodes that were wiped by the BBC, featuring Derek Griffiths, Nerys Hughes and guest Tessa Hamp. While not available to be included on the DVD release, a copy is known to exist in private hands.
Episode 5. Episode aired Nov 30, 1981. A dramatic finale as Captain Acteon of the Cosmic Investigation Department visits Arg to arrest Lesley Judd for being a mole. Contestants John Craven, Kirsty Miller and Bill Green must quickly exit to avoid the mayhem.
Season 3
Episode 1. Episode aired Feb 2, 1984. The third series sees The Adventure Game broadcast directly from Arg as part of Arg-O-Vision. New elements include viewer phone calls, plus the first appearance of Dagnor, the backwards-talking Argond.
Episode 2. Episode aired Feb 9, 1984. Sue Nicholls, Duncan Goodhew and guest Emma Disley face stilt walking, scaling ladders, multiple evaporations and a bed of nails. But their trials don't mean that Uncle will take it easy on them in the Vortex.
Episode 3. Episode aired Feb 16, 1984. In arguably the most bizarre episode, Chris Serle attempts to please Uncle by singing him a ballad, accompanied by the Argestra. Will his song win favour, or will Sandra Dickinson and Adam Tandy have to carry on without him?
Episode 4. Episode aired Feb 23, 1984. "Stopwatch" presenter Paul McDowell joins Bonnie Langford and Mastermind finalist Christopher Hughes in a series of increasingly bizarre puzzles and outlandish situations.
Episode 5. Episode aired Mar 1, 1984. Janet Fielding, judo champion Neil Adams and antiques dealer Nigel Crockett face the challenges of Arg in a week where Uncle is in a particularly bad mood. Will Uncle's unorthodox Vortex strategy work, or cause him further anger?
Episode 6. Episode aired Mar 8, 1984. The final edition of the third series sees Noel Edmonds, Fern Britton and member of the public Ray Virr try to get through the various hazards of Arg. But more importantly than that - it's His Royal Highness The Rangdo of Arg's birthday.
Season 4
Episode 1. Episode aired Jan 7, 1986. The final series of The Adventure Game sees the show still being broadcast from Arg as part of Arg-O-Vision. However, there's a new presenter in the form of Dorgan, and the increasingly bad-tempered Uncle has turned himself into a teapot.
Episode 2. Episode aired Jan 14, 1986. Johnny Ball, Barbara Lott and Liz Hobbs take on the puzzles and challenges of Arg, while there's a special appearance by Dagnor, AKA Ron Gad.
Episode 3. Episode aired Jan 21, 1986. Fiona Kennedy, weatherman Ian McCaskill and round-the-world yachtsman David Sandeman take on the challenges of Arg, including Argonds Round The Pond, and a particularly determined Uncle in The Vortex.
Episode 4. Episode aired Feb 4, 1986. Ruth Madoc, Heinz Wolff and student Deborah Leigh Hall take a trip to Arg. But can they work effectively together in order to outwit the Argonds?
Episode 5. Episode aired Feb 11, 1986. A postponed episode sees George Layton, Joanna Monro and guest Val Prince take their turn to visit Arg and get lost in a series of puzzles and challenges.
Episode 6. Episode aired Feb 18, 1986. Viewers get to visit Arg for one final time, as this last edition says goodbye to Gandor, Dorgan and the other Argonds. The final contestants hoping to avoid evaporation are Keith Chegwin, Heather Couper and guest Adam Gilbey.
