The Ambassadors Of Death - 5th story in my re-watch.
I think I'm gonna do a 'winter rewatch' rather than just try and watch as many titles in November, as this month is flying by, and i'm enjoying watching all these again on these dark evenings 😎

An Unearthly Child - 6th winter re-watch, and of course tying in with November 23rd.

The Crusade - bloody marvelous - almost feels like a BBC Shakespeare production. Julian Glover and Jean Marsh - what class! I like seeing the Doctor getting violent and stealing clothes.
I planned on celebrating the 23rd of November with a rewatch of The Mind Robber but I'm glad I changed my mind and chose The Crusade instead.

I'm going for 3 stories per Doctor over the winter, and I'm including the post-classic Doctors in my rewatch as I enjoy them (ducking to avoid getting pelted by rotten tomatoes, lol).

That should present you with certain difficulties where the eighth and war Doctors are concerned... unless you plan to include non-TV stories? And I wouldn't throw rotten tomatoes at you... not when boiled eggs leave more of a mark.

The war Doctor only leaves me with Day Of The Doctor and I doubt I'll be watching that one. As for the 8th Doctor, I can't stand the TV Movie, so my rewatch Doctors will be 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,9,10,11,12.

Oh... no Jodie? That's a shame... and now it's my turn to duck! As for Paul McGann, I liked him from the very start, but it took me a while to warm to his first outing as the Doctor. And while I still don't consider it to be among the better or stronger serials that 20th century DOCTOR WHO has to offer, I still enjoy it to degree... especially when compared to New Who. Although it's pretty obvious where New Who drew a lot of its inspiration from.

"I still enjoy it to degree... especially when compared to New Who" - I've always liked the TVM, but I appreciate it even more after 17 years of NuWho. "Although it's pretty obvious where New Who drew a lot of its inspiration from" - Davies and Co ditched all that was cool about the TVM (The Doctor's frock coated, old-fashioned image, the Tardis console room, a regeneration from the previous Doctor,) and kept everything that was naff (snogging, loved-up companions, magical endings, frenetic pace). Even if some folk don't like the TVM (I understand, it is very Americanised) McGann has done an incredible amount of 8th Doctor audio dramas for Big Finish, many of which are much better, (and feel more like real Who) than anything from the reboot series. But each to their own.

But if he'd been given a decent run on TV as the Doctor I don't doubt I'd be a fan of the era. I've just never enjoyed the TV Movie.

Fair enough - I appreciate that the TVM isn't to everyone's taste (didn't Barry Letts and Terrance Dicks walk out before the end of the first screening?). And tbh, I wasn't really a fully-fledged Who fan when I first watched the TVM back in '96. But McGann still remains one of my very favourite actors to take the role. Rapscallion, if by any chance you like audio dramas, and you're interested in the 8th Doctor BF adventures, here's a few of my own recommendations: Storm Warning The Sword of Orion Invaders From Mars The Chimes at Midnight Neverland The Natural History of Fear Memory Lane Blood of The Daleks Horror Of Glam Rock Dead London Max Warp Lucie Millar The Silver Turk The Company of FriendsAlas, I'm not familiar with the more recent releases.

Thankyou for the recommendations. I love audio dramas and have got quite a sizable collection of Big Finish titles, mainly 4th, 5th and 6th Doctor ones. But I have been curious about the 8th Doctor titles because I've heard great things about some of them, particularly The Chimes Of Midnight and The Silver Turk. I've recently got an Audible account, I think I'll see if some of these are on there and give them a go.

Mind you, as much as I like the BF stuff, I still prefer the BBC EDA books and best of all, Doctor Who Magazine's 8th Doctor comic strips that ran from 1996 - 2005.

THE THREE DOCTORS - 25/11/2022.
The third serial in my ongoing celebration of the anniversary and my EIGHT FACES OF DOCTOR WHO season of adventures.
I swear, these old serials just get better and better with repeated viewing. They feel less like adventures and more like spending time with old friends.
5/5.
