One of the best cliff hangers for me was The Sea Devils episode 3 - when The Doctor and Jo escape from The Master onto the beach, where they are then trapped between the prison guards, a mine field and a Sea Devil rising up from the waves...

Another one was the cliffhanger to part two of The Android Invasion, where after falling, Sarah's face comes off (a bit too easily admittedly) to reveal she's really an android duplicate.
It always reminded me of the Fembots from The bionic Woman TV series, although I think Who got in there first.

A good 'un was the cliff hanger to City Of Death part one - Behind the locked laboratory door, Count Scarlioni tears off the human mask he wears to reveal his true alien face, that of Scaroth of the Jagorth.

This one kind of gave me the goosebumps..."It's a Tardis. The Monk's got a Tardis!" I can just imagine the audience back then, sitting there in front of their TV's, being somewhat gobsmacked at this turn of events.

I couldn’t find it on YouTube, but my personal favourite is the end of episode 3 when the Gundan robots enter and start smashing up the place and time jumps and the Doctor finds himself in the hall with with Rorvik and his men.
Great stuff.

What's the single best ever 'Doctor Who' cliffhanger to date?
And just how essential a part of 'Doctor Who''s appeal were the cliffhangers anyway?
On the negative side, didn't it sadly force the show to regularly stop for some very silly moments indeed throughout the years?
Please discuss all things cliff-hangery here...

Would we all agree that this cliffhanger is the single best ever one? Fan wisdom seems to suggest it is...? Crash Landing | The Caves of Androzani
