What I like about the look of this is that it seems to be 3 episodes of comedy and a final episode of horror and bloodshed. Strange, but intriguing mix?

Colourized by Clayton Hickman Today I'm in a Myth Makers kind of mood. So today The Myth Makers is my most wanted missing story. Today it's cool to see absolutely anything from this story, even if it is just a picture of an empty part of the set.

I really took a liking to The Myth Makers a few years ago, but it was after years of trying to listen to the audio, which I really struggled with. I was on a long car journey, driving from Edinburgh back down south through the night, and put it on in the car to keep myself occupied. I got REALLY into it. Loved Cassandra. And Episode 4 was truly the highlight with the whole dramatic change in tone. I think the build up to Vicki's departure is the most frustrating thing about the story. The whole Cressida plot is daft, and it's such a pity that Vicki was written out the way she was. I actually really enjoy the Doctor, Vicki and Steven as a trio, so A) it's criminal that we only have one existing story with the three of them in to enjoy, and B) Vicki should have stayed until the end of series 3.

I still love reading your's and Yartek's reviews on Mondas. It's about the only thing I really check out over there now. Everything else gets covered over here anyway. Talking of which, is Yartek joining us over here?

Beyond seeing that out with Yartek, I think I have grown to prefer the wider, more balanced focus here on more than just "Who" (although, to my shame, I had to look up what 'Caprona' and 'Caspak' were referring to, coz I hadn't a clue). Agree that it would be great to see Yartek posting here. Fingers crossed.

Well, personally I'd love it if after you finished going over the missing stories, you both reviewed the ones that weren't missing. And maybe did that over here on this site. But I can imagine that would be a huge regular commitment, and you may feel like you could do with a break from the reviews now that Marco Polo is in sight.

"Do not hinder me, or I will strike you with a thunderbolt!"
I'm very fond of The Myth Makers - I've always been interested in the Classical world, and the Trojan War in particular. The Myth Makers is placed between The Dalek Masterplan prelude Mission To The Unknown and The Dalek Masterplan in full, and I've always found this a little strange - why tease the audience with the threat of a big Dalek epic only to then cart them off to ancient Troy for 4 weeks?
The Myth Makers is rather similar to The Romans but not quite as funny, though I like the combination of comedy and violence in this serial and there's even a hint of 'Up Pompei' style bawdy humour in one or two lines - Max Adrian (appearing here as King Priam) went on to play Senator Ludicrus Sextus in the first season of 'Up Pompei' (1969).
It's sad to see Vicki leave.. I prefer this serial to Donald Cotton's other Hartnell historical; The Gun Fighters.

This story has, of course, just got an epilogue of sorts (albeit in the guise of a blu-ray advert) - as we finally see what happened to Vicki.....

Okay, maybe she fell head over heels in love with Troilus, but I still find it hard to accept that Vicki would choose to live in such a barbaric time, considering that she is from the far future. It would have made more sense for Troilus to join them on their travels, surely? Thought that the hokey name change to Cressida was daft too - and really clunkily done.
