An Instinct for Murder Conversations with the Dead Intelligent Listening for Beginners Trivial Games and Paranoid Pursuits This Case to be Opened in a Million Years In Warm Blood A Double Life Other People's Secrets Little Green Men and Other Martians A Chris Boucher series that was so wildly successful that it was cancelled when they started making episode 10, so nine episodes is all we got.
Chris blamed the producer, of course for everything that went wrong.
But - behind the scenes dramas aside - does it stand up as an entertaining and worthy series?
Or did it deserve the axe falling so soon?
And do you like or dislike that theme song?

I liked this show, but the hard-bitten, cynical tough, smart-arsed dialogue that Boucher shoved into the mouths of every single regular got a bit wearing. Too many people sniping and barking at each other. It needed to lighten up I thought.
Am not surprised it got cancelled, given the Beeb's attitude to sci-fi at the time, but still think it's an interesting curio, deserving of having a cult following imo.

Like so many things it now seems to have found a new lease of life on Big Finish.....

It was a good series with a terrible theme-tune. I initially hated it because I felt it had replaced Doctor Who in some fashion, but once I started watching it I found it a good mystery show. I know my sister has told me it was the first place she ever saw the concept of a computer virus, something which of course became just a fact of life a few years later.

I remember the BBC heads made a "big deal" that THIS was going to replace DOCTOR WHO, and it was pitched as if it would be a respectable series compared to the CRAP that they department heads secreted HATED and sabotaged for years on end.
I taped the first 4 episodes off PBS... and hated every second of it. I still have the tape-- God knows why-- but I've never had the urge to watch it again. It's just so.............DULL.
"You can sit in the park, and watch the grass die..."
As for combiniong police shows and sci-fi...
SPACE PRECINCT is my FAVORITE thing Gerry Anderson ever did. And yet, at the time it got to America, the stations running it did all they could to sabotage it. It is an INCREDBLY-good show-- great concept, characters, cast, costumes, writing, design, visual effects, music... everything. There's not a bad episode in there anywhere, and, I swear it just keeps getting better every time I re-watch it. It was miraculous I was able to see every episode that year, I had to watch 2 different TV stations at various horrible time slots to get it.
