Now I do know that someone must have been having a laugh when they compiled this. Placing The Visitation as the 4th weakest story of the Davison era? It may not be perfect, but it doesn't deserve to be that far down any serious list. And Planet Of Fire one of the best, way above Earthshock? Planet Of Fire is an utter bore-a-thon!

I completely agree that The Visitation and Earthshock deserve much higher positions on this worst to best list, and that Planet Of Fire certainly isn't the most exciting 5th Doctor serial. However, I simply can't fault the writers' views on TimeCrash: "...Peter Davison playing someone not really at all like the fifth Doctor, 23 years after he left the part...".
And: "Davison might not be that fond of all his stories from when he was the Doctor, but there was no dialogue he had from 1982-1984 as woeful as "wibbly wobbly, timey-wimey", and no writer idiotic enough to think that such a line is genuinely clever and witty". Well said!

I was never a big Davison fan and sadly, he's probably my least liked of the Classic Doctors, partly because he followed the mighty Tom, partly because I found him a bit bland, partly because I didn't much care for (or fancy) his companions, partly because he was too young and partly because I just don't like cricket (sorry Peter!). However, I've mellowed a bit towards him in recent years and have learnt to appreciate a lot of the Fifth Doctor adventures - the obvious choices - Kinda, Mawdryn Undead, Enlightenment, Earthshock, The Caves of Androzani, etc. I also read and enjoyed his autobiography 'Is There Life Outside The Box?' and even watched/liked old episodes of All Creatures Great and Small. In addition, I greatly respected his bravery (and sanity!) for being one of the very few people to question the notion of a female Doctor Who, when every other actor/celebrity connected with the series was falling over themselves to praise St Jodie.

I used to have a similar press cutting of Pamela Stephenson sitting on Davo's leg (mine was from the Daily Mirror) Long gone sadly. Not the Nine O'Clock Nudes!
