It has it's faults but not ashamed to say this is one of my favourite Cybermen stories. I've always found Revenge enjoyable enough and admit to being somewhat fond of it. Mainly cos I remember watching it when it was first on the telly, (seemed so gripping and exciting to the six year old me then, the Cybermen turning up at the Nerva Beacon and emerging through the airlock, oh and a bit later on, when the Vogans get 'massacred' by a least two Cybermen! lol)
Then, of course, many years later ('86 for me, a bit late) like so many other folks, it was one of the first stories that I bought on video.
Loved the design of the Cybermen in this, basically The Invasion look but more 'chunky', thicker piping, the corrugated bits, the belt and the flares!
I kinda liked the Nerva Beacon crew (not the shop dummies though) particularly Jeremy Wilkins' Kellman, looked the part and played it really well,, the Vogans much less so. David Collings was really going for it, wasn't he. Kevin Stoney was wasted. Talking of Vogans, I thought the location stuff from Wookey Hole for Voga looked real good in this.
As for Christopher Robbie's Cyberleader walking about hands on hips going on about Cyberbums or summat and being a bit emotional, well it never really bothered me, I mean perhaps these Cybermen were converted in a rush, have faulty emotional inhibitors (or whatever they have) or maybe they were designed to be a bit vengeful, angry or perhaps like most things in life, the Cybermen lowered their standards.

I love this story too. I remember finding the scene where the crew member deliberately activates his deadly belt buckle to destroy the Cybermen a bit disturbing when I saw it as a kid. I also had the Typhoo tea card of a Cyberman from this story, which I treasured. And to me these are the definitive Cyber-design, probably because they were the first ones I saw.

I have a soft spot for this too. It isn’t great, but I was overjoyed to see the Cybermen back at the time.

A great cast, some nice location filming in Wookey Hole and the best Cybermen design - flares and all outside of the Sixties - the guns in their heads work well I think. The Vogans do not convince however.
Kellman is very sinister and well played by Jeremy Wilkin. He would have made a good Master perhaps.
All in all an enjoyable romp.
8/10

Sticking this here seeing as it sits between this story and Earthshock.

I think this story is brilliant and a fine ending to a great first series for Tom! This particular look for them has always been my favourite design, this and the Invasion anyways! As a long term fan I hadn't seen the Cybermen since 1969 (nobody else had either) but I still remembered them and found them a pretty scary adversary! Although later 1980s stories would reduce their powerful legend and the new series would all but destroy their quality! But here they are a surviving ship of say eight Cybermen with enough parts on board the ship to begin their conquests a new! JB
