I think - if taken in the right spirit - there's a lot of fun to be had from this story.
I think that Ray might have made for a better companion than Ace, but think the actress struggled to do an authentic-sounding Welsh accent, so maybe should have been left to speak with her own accent?
The moment with the fate of the bus is a dark turn in a story that had been fairly light up until then, I thought.

No substitute for Doctor Who at its best, but quite a lot of nice location filming and probably Bonnie Langford's best story.
6/10

A 2 from me.
Just awful and insipid.
I'd say the 2 is for Don Henderson's performance as Gavrok.

"Now, are you telling me that you are not the Happy Hearts Holiday Club from Bolton, but instead are spacemen in fear of an attack from some other spacemen, and because of the danger, you want me to evacuate the entire camp?" Kurosawa meets Hi-De-Hi! (sort of).. I am unashamedly a fan of Delta And The Bannermen - it's one of my very favourite 7th Doctor serials- where else could you find Bonnie Langford, Ken Dodd, Don Henson, one of The Flying Pickets, that Welsh fella from Please Sir!, the fella from Hancock's Half Hour and an American film star all in the same story? Colourful, silly and daft as a brush, but great fun, it's like children's telly gone mad (and quite dark in places, despite it's frivolous nature). Although I really like Ace, it would also have been nice to see motorbikin' Ray as a companion (I love it when she says "He was i-o-nised"). Cool music, too. 9/10Tattyfilarious!

The first time I saw this, I didn't know WHAT the hell to make of it! The opening scene looks like it's a sequel to BLAKE'S 7, then you get to the airport scene, and... WTF? And then there's those 2 daft FBI agents... seriously WTF!! Gavrock seems to have walked in from some other story entirely. But then you have The Doctor, showing more warmth & humanity than he's had since JON PERTWEE was on the show. Seriously. I couldn't make heads or tails of the bee-keeping guy. MORE WTF. And then something weird happened. Time went by. And on repeate viewings... I couldn't believe it. This totally-nutso thing began to GROW on me. I look back, and DRAGONFIRE is a chaotic MESS. TIME AND THE RANI is 45 minutes of story agonizingly stretched beyond belief to 90 minutes. PARADISE TOWERS is like an Adam West BATMAN story (probably from season 2). But DELTA... it's a time-travel romantic-musical-comedy action story. And, whatta ya know, "Mel" has some of her very best scenes in it. I read Bonnie left because of bad writing. I can sympathize. She deserved so much better. At least she got this. And Don Henderson... EVERY TIME I see him in a movie, I yell at my screen, "GAVROK!!!" That includes STAR WARS, THE BIG SLEEP, BRANNIGAN... I suddenly flashed on an alternate version of this, where Richard Boone played Gavrok. That would have been NASTY!

Many years went by before one day, I was suddenly reminded that, in the mid-60s, I used to watch Stubby Kaye on Saturday mornings.

A bonkers pantomime mess to me currently. Some good caring actors in it having a laugh and rest from their 'proper' work, but not the direction I felt comfortable with, then and now.
