Just think this is a great story. The ending certainly had impact at the time. June Hudson's operatic approach to costume design really paid off in this story I think and the sets were marvellous too.
The voice of Melkur so sinister. Can't remember if I realised it was the Master at the time - probably just a dawning fan realisation as the clues were building up?
A definite triumph of the JN-T era imo.

Love this. As for the story itself, it's a bit on the stagey side and slow innit but I do like the Melkur and the Master's return livens things up.

I guessed it could be The Master in episode two when I saw those burnt hands at the controls but even I in my greatest moment could never have suspected Anthony Ainley, here as Tremas, would be taken over by the rotting, shambling Master and become the new incarnation of said character! Shame as after Logopolis he became less evil and just a Dick Dastardly rip-off somewhat! The Five Doctors restored him a little but afterwards he was soon back to twirling his moustache and laughing maniacally... JB

"If all the stars were silver and the sky a giant purse in my fist, I couldn't be happier than I am tonight."A pleasant story from the mostly excellent Season 18. Although I don't usually like Doctor Who associated with fairy tales and fables, The Keeper of Traken does sometimes feel a bit like a magical fantasy (with a hint of the Shakespearean) and is enjoyable as such. The Art Deco sets, the beautiful costumes, the mannered, old fashioned way of speaking, the fey Nyssa, the living statue in the garden - it all comes across as rather fanciful. Ironic really, when you consider that this was supposed to be the Bidmead Age of Science... 7/10

JNT shoving in the Master at the last minute is the only thing that saves this from being a complete yawnfest.

I was working or travelling home when this was first broadcast so maybe by now a little too 'old' for the show at the time?
Visually nice, I still don't 'bond' with this season and delightful as Nyssa and Ms Sutton definitely are, I find Adric a bit useless and the Doctor somewhat diluted (as intended, but the show lost something with that kind of direction I felt). I'm not very far in on the re-watch so have to be very careful here.
I've not got there yet, but I suspect the new TARDIS crew including the 5th Doctor, was being set up, possibly making Tom feel even more left out as I'm sure he'd given notice by now?
Sorry to be so negative. I'm looking more positively at the sets and clothes currently more than the stories - oh dear

My favourite story of this season.
Lots of good world building.
Would have been nice to have seen Geoffrey Beevers do some more Master stuff..
Not the Big Finish dreck, but good Tv Doctor Who.
