I think it would have been a great story fully filmed and recorded... The part-animated DVD version I think does a very passable job and I reckon it was Tom as he is now adding that final touch at the very end with that wicked toothy grin into camera, any resistance I had to his portrayal simply evaporated. Pat Troughton will always be *my* Doctor (no disrespect intended to Wm Hartnell here who kicked it off for me), but Tom is such a wonderful one-off and able to get away with it most of the time. The actor playing Professor Chronotis was also perfectly cast I think and in fact he could have played the Doctor well also in a different scenario. Time Lords all seem to have a knack for telepathy, even the Doctor on occasion although it doesn't seem as 'honed' as in other Timelords. Mind you, if NuWho realised this, I suspect that would have been another plot device overused like that sodding sonic screwdriver/thingy!!! I can't believe how strong the unions were (are?). Doing a full camera rehearsal (obviously not recorded), going for lunch and returning to find the studio doors locked with no entry allowed

I think it would have been a great story fully filmed and recorded... I agree - if completed, I'm sure it would have been remembered as a well-loved classic and a truly grand way to end Season 17, and to kick off the 1980s. Alas, it was not to be. Still, I love all the various versions of Shada, unfinished or not. "Professor, I don't want to be critical but I will. It's very risky bringing books back from Gallifrey."
