Now that we finally have it "completed"....
Am not sure it was ever that good in the first place?

Tom Baker and Lalla Ward are wonderful in this - they have such style, such flair, such panache!
DOCTOR: Wordsworth, Rutherford, Christopher Smart, Andrew Marvel, Judge Jefferies, Owen Chadwick. ROMANA: Who? DOCTOR: Owen Chadwick. Oh, yes. Some of the greatest labourers in the history of Earth have thought here. ROMANA: Newton, of course. DOCTOR: Oh, definitely Newton. ROMANA: For every action, there is a equal and opposite reaction. DOCTOR: That's right. ROMANA: So Newton invented punting. DOCTOR: Oh, yes. There was no limit to Isaac's genius. ROMANA: Isn't it wonderful how something so primitive can be so DOCTOR: Restful? ROMANA: No, simple. You just push in one direction and the boat goes in the other. Oh, I do love the spring. All the leaves, the colours. DOCTOR: It's October. ROMANA: I thought that you said we were coming here for May week. DOCTOR: I did. May week's in June. ROMANA: I'm confused. DOCTOR: So was the Tardis. _______
I love the scenes in the study with Professor Chronotis, gloriously naff dialogue - One lump or two? Two lumps please and two sugars etc.
If it had been completed it should have been better than most of Season 17 with the exception of City of Death perhaps.
Not a particularly great story but I rather this had been completed as a 4 parter instead of Meglos.
Based on the 1979 studio and location footage alone:
8/10

Shada - I'm very fond of this adventure - it's almost like a companion piece to City Of Death. Such a shame that it wasn't completed, it would have been a great way to conclude the rather marvelous Season 17. Still, the animated 2017 reconstruction is a lot of of fun.

Oddly, a cutting of the time that seems to think that this story is about to be broadcast....

I retain the VHS original issue and bought the DVD on release. It was this latter DVD release that made me realise just how good Tom is in the role and I forever thank this release for (whatever it was that flicked the switch) appreciating Tom and his portrayal for the first time really

As for which medium, I like both the animations but the Levine one slightly edges it even though the 2017 version has better acting and actually has Tom himself back as the Doctor. (I don't mind the McGann audio either although his Doctor feels somewhat out of place)

In the long run I liked "Meglos" more than "The Leisure Hive".

To misquote Douglas Adams... "Well that's a load of old dingo's kidneys"...
Thank god there was a strike...
