Well i finally watched The Ice Warriors which means that i can announce that the cold spell and winter normality has finally arrived in my neck of the woods, i even fired up the boiler ( Not a euphemism ). It is 2 episodes too long i think we can all agree? I can now start to indulge in the whole DVD collection. Regards HGL. I'm sorry, mate, but I can't agree about the length of THE ICE WARRIORS. I thoroughly enjoy all six episodes... and never once does it feel like it's dragging or taking too long. In fact, of all Classic Who serials, there's only one that I feel might've benefited from a shorter runtime... and that's THE WEB PLANET. And even then, I'd still prefer to watch it than anything New Who has to offer.

The Web Of Fear - 7th story in my winter re-watch. So I tried to resist watching this one but temptation got the better of me. It's within my top 5 favourite classic Doctor Who stories of all time, and I just love it. The underground tunnels are brilliantly done, and the whole claustrophobic feel throughout all 6 episodes is wonderful. I love Jack Woolgar as Sergeant Arnold. I'll never forget, almost 10 years ago, when I re-watched episode 1 and then was able to go straight into episode 2 for the very first time!!!! Honestly thought I was dreaming. And then to be able to watch those final three episodes. Incredible. Now just to find episode 3, eh. 10 out of 10. I love the entire serial, but I simply can't get over how atmospheric and creepy the opening sequence is where Professor Travers confronts Julius Silverstein and tries to warn him about the danger of the Yeti... And then afterwards, when the Yeti attacks. Just wow... Is it any wonder little kids were hiding behind the couch?

Enough with the shorter runtime milarkey. Go and take it out on The Space Museum instead please

And I'm still more than prepared to watch it in its current configuration...and episode 1 is still quite excellent in my opinion. PS - And as the sole member of THE SPACE MUSEUM Defence Police, go take it out on THE TWIN DILEMMA...

The Empty Child. Have to be honest, didn't like it as much as I used to. Still got some good stuff in there, but all the NewWhoiness just kinda grinded my gears after a bit.

The Empty Child. Have to be honest, didn't like it as much as I used to. Still got some good stuff in there, but all the NewWhoiness just kinda grinded my gears after a bit. I think The Empty Child is terribly overrated - Eccelston's awkward line, 'Go to your room!' sounds cringey beyond belief. And I also don't like the 'Everyone Lives, Rose!' declaration in 'The Doctor Dances' (it wasn't so bad on this one occasion, but Moffat went on to use the idea far too much in his stories). I wish the Doctor had ditched Rose in her Spice Girls T-Shirt and taken along the far more interesting Nancy instead. On the plus side, there's a nice use of Glenn Miller's music in the episode. Back to Classic Who - Rewatching the animated Galaxy 4. This is one of my wife's fave Hartnell tales - we like the Chumblies!

I haven’t watched any classic Doctor Who for ages.
I don’t go for marathons or that sort of thing. I usually pick random stories that I feel like watching (and they aren’t always from the first four doctors).
I haven’t watched The Abominable Snowmen yet. Something about the potential (or lack there of) of the animation puts me off. I watched the making of if that counts.
I’ll probably rectify my lack of watching when I get the Season 2 blu-ray.

TERROR OF THE AUTONS - 05/12/2022.
Having finally finished celebration of the anniversary and my EIGHT FACES OF DOCTOR WHO season of adventures, I said I would follow this up with a watch through of the Roger Delgado series of Master serials.
And so we come to TERROR OF THE AUTONS, which introduced the Doctor's new companion, Jo Grant, his archenemy the Master, Captain Mike Yates and firmly established what would later become known as "the UNIT family".
And just out of interest, Christopher Burgess appeared as Professor Philips and Andrew Staines appeared as Goodge. Both actors had previously appeared together in THE ENEMY OF THE WORLD and they would both go on to appear together in PLANET OF THE SPIDERS. All three serials were directed by Barry Letts.
4/5.

THE MIND OF EVIL - 06/12/2022.
Possibly my favourite serial featuring Roger Delgado as the Master. The sight of him sitting back, relaxing in his chauffeur-driven black limo, puffing away on a big fat cigar, always puts a smile on my face. I love losing myself in a long and intricate story, featuring many interesting characters, multiple interwoven plots and a multitude of twists and turns.
And, of course, "the UNIT family" is at its very peak here, with the Doctor, the Brigadier, the Master, Jo Grant, Captain Yates, Sergeant Benton and Corporal Bell. I'm always sorely disappointed that Corporal Bell - a character with so much potential - was so criminally underused.
5/5.

The Mind Of Evil is indeed a smashing Season 8 serial (although it feels much more like something from Season 7), but you didn't mention Captain Chin Lee, played by the lovely Pik Sen Lim. Mike Yates described the Captain as "quite a dolly" (imagine that description being used nowadays! ).
