Lot's of running about, getting caught, escaping, getting caught again, escaping again etc, going on and very little else till the Daleks turn up is all I can recall about this one. Oh and that Ogron eating Ballbag monster.

Frontier in Space set in 2540AD involving Ogrons, Draconians, The Master and The Daleks was a great tale and leading into the next story Planet of The Daleks although you wouldn't guess it from the Terry Nation written script! The future earth with it's female President and South Bank looking buildings would fit nicely in with the Davison Earthshock set in 2526AD but I wonder if lieutenant Scott was still around? The original story included The Cybermen as servants of The Daleks instead of The Ogrons but I guess that Barry Letts and Terrance Dicks who were not fans of the boys from Mondas vetoed that and brought back The Apemen instead! With plenty of ex-UFOtech and spaceships to boot too this story was a must see back in 1973 on Saturdays!!! JB

I remember Trial of Davros I give this a seven. I must say, watching it recently I was impressed by how well it seemed to understand internal politics of government and how to make effective human drama from it. I can certainly indulge it for its capture and escape routines, as the story is effectively about Earth's creeping descent into a police state and witch hunt justice. There are a few plot logic gaps I suppose, mainly to do with the space-walk stuff and the Daleks sparing the Doctor's life. But on the plus side there's some great character moments here (chiefly General Williams' moment where he realizes he's misunderstood and wronged the Draconians all along) and Delgado gets some great moments worth savoring. I will admit, when I was 14 it all seemed a bit lightweight and pat to me, but I've grown to appreciate it over the years a whole lot more. Especially during lockdown.

Jo: "What are you doing here?" The Master: "To coin a phrase. I've come to take you away from all this".
I like Malcolm Hulke serials and Frontier in Space is an enjoyable slice of '70s space opera, and almost feels like the BBC's trial run for Blakes 7. The first two episodes look smashing (quite impressive set designs, the Draconian make-up, costumes, etc.) but they mostly consist of the Doctor and Jo being accused of stuff, then being locked up, then escaping. My favourite part is seeing the Doctor interacting with the prisoners in the penal colony (Episode 3) and then later, when the Master settles down to read The War Of The Worlds. Also, the scenes with the Earth President and General Williams, and the background to the Draconian War are probably the most interesting bits of Frontier. Nice return for the brutish Ogrons, and it's sad to see the last of Delgado's Master.
Not keen on the concluding Planet Of The Daleks episodes.
