A nice photo of Jon and Katy which features on page 2 of the Season 9 BluRay booklet.

I bloody hated this story on first transmission. Only three Dalek props, trundling on rails outside with rattly domes and so on and the grey paint kind of diminished them for me at the time. I wondered 'Why the Ogrons' - and so it went on... Watching the video some years later, I started to thaw a bit as regards the story and now on DVD as I trawl through the classic series, I find I can 'suspend disbelief' better than ever and actually find it an enjoyable romp. The third Doctor was well established by this time and his relationship with Jo was a very fond one, she appealing to his (grand)fatherly nature and I think, genuine off-screen as well. The Dalek voices weren't hugely effective really, but merely substituting Nick Briggs Dalek voices into the remastered special edition? He's even more recognisable than beloved Peter Hawkins was and really, we need more voices through that ring modulator You know, I don't mind it now Is it nostalgia that improves my rating of this story? Dunno really, but I'm enjoying it very much!

P.S. Not sure the 'improved' special effects and Nick Briggs' almost hysterical Dalek voices have stood the test of time anything like as well as the originals, to be honest. To me, a total waste of time and money and any future viewings will be of the original as transmitted I think

This was actually the first Daleks TV story I ever saw, following the 2 movies a few years earlier.
For the whole of season 8, I thought The Master was more likable than The Doctor, who too often had a chip on his shoulder. With him out of the way, it seemed to me Jon Pertwee's Doctor was finally starting to relax and become a more-likable person.
Sadly, this was the LAST story Philly's channel 17 ran, the 2 times they ran Pertwee stories. Their run of the show went from "The Silurians" to "Day Of The Daleks". Can you imagine? They SKIPPED Pertwee's all-so-important FIRST story, and 4/5ths of his 3rd season. Many years later, I read they'd syndicated his first 3 seasons as one package, but the way Channel 17 ran them, it was like they ran 2 seasons-- sort of.
The theme and feel of this story probably reminded me a lot of the later PLANET OF THE APES movies, where you had a dystopian future, time-travel, and the Ogrons with their leather outfits. I'd probably rather re-watch this than any of those films, though.
