A classic. Nothing much to dislike about this story except those Dalek voices.

One of my favourite Dalek stories and a good quality print of the episodes too! I couldn't understand why they cut the 'No complications' line from the Special Edition version? They kept this beauty near to the closing edge of the DVD range which annoyed me no end! In fact I think Death to The Daleks was the final Dalek story to be released! I loved the two time zones and the earth under Dalek rule with the Ogrons as the Dalek's police force to administer law and order to the unruly humans complaining that they don't get enough to eat or have enough sleep time while working in the factories! Obviously Johnson and his cronies are big fans of that part of this story too! JB

Absolute classic story. One of my favourite Dalek stories, and up there as one of my favourites of the Pertwee era.
Love how this leaps from being a modern day story with UNIT interacting and the Doctor and Jo house-sitting, with the Doctor helping himself to the cheese and wine....to the bleak future setting.
It's one of those stories that I watched over and over in my early teens, being one of the first I owned on video. The video rental store up the road from me had a copy, and I bought Day Of The Daleks and The Robots Of Death from them as they were selling them off. I'd already rented both stories many times. Mid-1987, I'm guessing. That omnibus edition is the way to watch it.
Looking back, I don't think there was any need to update the story with a special edition version for the DVD release. I think at the time I was quite excited to see what they could do with it, but I don't recall being very impressed, and I've never watched that version of it again. The Dalek voices would be the only thing I think that would need altering, and even they are part of the story, for better or worse.

"You went back to change history, but you didn't change anything. You became a part of it."A superb Pertwee serial and certainly one of the very best outings for the belligerent pepper pots - Day Of The Daleks was one of my favourite Target novelizations as a kid (beaten only by my fondness for Doctor Who And The Cave Monsters). Jo and the Doctor are delightful in this - I love the scene in the Episode 1, where he's tasting wine, like a proper connoisseur: "Yes. Yes, that's a most good humoured wine. A touch sardonic perhaps, but not cynical. Yes, a most civilised wine. One after my own heart." Yet despite the Third Doctor's cultured nature, we see that he has no qualms about picking up a handgun and zapping an Ogron into oblivion - so much for 'the man who never would'! While I like Anna Barry as Anat, the sexy rebel leader, Aubrey Woods' Controller simply steals the show ( "Who knows? I may have helped to exterminate you"). Day Of The Daleks starts almost like a ghost story in Auderley House but quickly turns into a rollicking time travel adventure, dealing with the dangers of trying to change history. It was also a smashing way to start Season 9 (I prefer the Special Edition version of Day - the original Dalek voices were flat, squawky and far too human sounding and the new versions are a vast improvement). 9/10
