Did you like his particular brand of script-editing and writing?
Or were you glad when he went - taking his entropy and Charged Vacuum Emboitements with him?

I can't say I was a fan.
I do get the sense that where Season 18 was great (namely State of Decay), it was in spite of him rather than because of him.
At the same time, most of my major problems with Logopolis tend to be to do with the elements JNT insisted on including (the Master, Tegan).
His ideas in Logopolis and Castrovalva weren't bad, but I really do sense he needed a co-writer who had less of a tin-ear for dialogue and more of a sense of pace and Doctorish heroism.
I can't say I was glad to see him go, however, because Eric Saward ended up being much worse.

He seemed to think that RTD was sending first draft scripts into the studio.....

In regards to that interview, I'd say Bidmead got the show and sci-fi writing more than RTD ever did.

He seemed to think that RTD was sending first draft scripts into the studio..... "It's just a shame he has to call it 'Doctor Who'." I'm with Bidmead on this - a shame indeed.

It'd be better if he called it 'Fathead's fanfiction'.

He's not a writer, and it showed IMO. Where season 18 works does seem to be in spite of him rather than because of him and while there was nothing fundamentally wrong with the idea of making the show more serious again, this should have been done with more drama and scares and not dour science lectures. Decay is brilliant but that's down to Dicks, Moffat and JNT backing up the latter to stick to the original script. God only knows how boringly shite the Bidmead version would have been...and the insertion of the Master is literally the only interesting thing about Traken.

Guard opens cell door wearing Nazi uniform holding gun:
"YOU are to be executed IMMEDIATELY!"
John Steed: "Well thank goodness you broke it to me gently."
Steed suddenly raises his arm in a Nazi salute.
"HEIL!"
"HEIL!"
Steed punches guard's lights out, grabs his keys, they opens Purdey's cell next door, to her astonishment.
"It's just one of those old-fashioned tricks."
I love Brian Clemens' writing.
