I got the BF audio and could not entirely make head or tail of what was supposed to be going on in Mister Hamilton Bidmead's script. I gather that the Doctor and Peri in the framing story with amnesia is a BF addition too? I might go back and listen to it again one day, now that I gather Professor Stream was actually supposed to be The Master.

I think this story sounds like it has an intriguing premise, but mention of "human bees" on an end of season 23 budget made me automatically think of the "human birds" on the end of Season 21 "Twin Dilemma" budget - and that, visually at least, this story might have been a disappointment?

The Hollows Of Time is a funny old listen. On the one hand it is properly confusing, but on the other hand Colin and Nicola do make it very listenable.
Have to say, that line where the Doctor compares his brain to the time rotor of the TARDIS console had me laughing out loud, though I don't think it was meant to be taken that way.
I'm really unsure about how this would come across on screen. Audio can be such a difficult category to judge, so that hardly helps trying to work everything out that's going on. Seeing it on TV may have given some clarity that audio just can't provide.
The unmade stories that I really would've wanted to see would be other scripts from the audio missing range - namely Point Of Entry, Leviathan and The First Sontarans, all of which came across brilliantly on audio.

I was really left buzzing after hearing The Nightmare Fair, and I began to feel like I really was experiencing 1986 and what Season 23 could've been and like I finally *got* the era.
This mostly carried over that feeling but it has a lot of dead spots in the plot where it's very easy to lose interest.
On paper all the right elements are there. The Ice Warriors on an ice world, the effects of climate change, the sisterhood of Magnus.... I liked all that kind of world-building. I really adored the character of Anzor and infact I worked him into one of my fanfics. And frankly the bit in part two of the BF version where snivelling Sil prays to the Gods to save himself from execution is almost worth the CD price alone.
The problem is, Anzor disappears from it too soon, the male characters from the neighbouring world are not ones I took to at all and they had some of the worst dialogue I've ever heard on audio, the kids were dreadful, and the final ending where it becomes resolved by a lot of arranged marriages and "just lay back and think of Magnus" leaves a supremely nasty aftertaste (yes there's a lot of sexist remarks by Anzor prior to then, but it was easy to believe the story was holding him up to ridicule for it).
Were we robbed? I'd have loved to see this one done better justice. Maybe if someone had drawn out Philip Martin's better ideas here, trimmed out the fat and definitely changed that problematic ending, it would've been one to enjoy.
I'm mixed on it. I'm glad it at least exists on audio as a curiosity.
