There can be only one....
But which one?

"Splendid chap... all of them!" - Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart.
And I'm not going to argue with someone who actually met all of them.

The Trout for me. I think he is absolutely sublime in the role. Love his Columbo-esque - acting dim, but actually quietly dismantling the villain's plots - personae.

I actually dread being asked this question, lol. I have so much love and respect for all of them that by naming a favourite I feel like I'm disrespecting the others, or at the very least hinting that there's something wrong with the other 6.
I did struggle at first with Sylvester McCoy. Season 24 for me was dreadful compared to the other 6 seasons that I had watched in full growing up. Now I can watch the 7th Doctor without any problems, but in 1987 that was something I couldnt do.
So, in short, for me the best classic Doctor has to be the one that roped me in to being the fan that I am, and that really has to be Tom Baker. I think he just has such gravitas, and I also guess it helps that his era has the biggest portion of my favourite stories, helped by him giving such a captivating performance.
And my choice of Tom Baker is despite the fact that I feel that Peter Davison is MY Doctor, as it was the 5th Doctor era that kept me hooked and had me avidly collecting the novels, buying DWM, and watching home-recorded videos of The Visitation and Black Orchid over and over and over.

Think those first four Doctors are the best really - today it's Tom, tomorrow it might be Trout, Pert or Bill.
Kinda feel with the Doctors that come after them like it's the law of diminishing returns setting in. Having said that, I don't dislike any of them, they simply aren't as memorable to me as those first four were.
