Never thought we would get it back - but am (obviously) so glad that we did. Having said that, can't help but think that it is a tad overlong, particularly as it is set in very much the same (marvellous) underground sets a lot of the time. But enough complaining. It's a great, atmospheric story and so grateful that five sixths of it is now safe and sound. And I still love that cover of the novelisation......

My second favourite story of all time, and my favourite black and white era story.
I adore it, and I have to really stop myself from watching it too regularly as I don't want to run the risk of going off it, lol.
Honestly didn't think it could possibly live up to my expectations when those four missing episodes were recovered, but it completely exceeded them. So atmospheric, everything about The Web Of Fear is top tier classic Doctor Who.
Gotta disagree with you on one point Ciggy, out of a lot of 6+ part stories that really do suffer from being too long, I don't think that this is one of them.

Think this one really does live up to all the high praise its gotten. Very atmospheric story, claustrophobic and eerie what with the music, sound effects and stuff. Top notch cast, great direction, great set designs etc. Thrilling stuff.

Some eagle-eyed type on Twitter reckons he's spotted something odd peering out of the Yeti's mush. LinkJohn Levene???...

The first four episodes are as good as Doctor Who gets IMO - everything it should be - brilliant acting, atmospheric music, excellent sets.
Things grind to a halt in episode 5 and the final reveal that the whole point of the Great Intelligence taking over London is purely to drain the Doctor's mind is a bit underwhelming.
I will never get bored of watching this though.
9.5/10

I remember being so thrilled to find Web of Fear as a Target novel back in 76 or was it 77, as I was convinced that there would be no more Troughton stories ever released! This was at a time when you never knew what was going to come next in the shops. Usually it was a Tom Baker story from about two years ago or even a Pertwee or occasionally a Hartnell but never a Second Doctor!!! But on that day I was very happy. Took a long time to get another though... JB

'The Web Of Fear' is my first blurry Doctor Who memory -therefore it should mean a lot to me, for nostalgia's sake, if nothing else. Yet apart from Episode 1, I've decided that I don't really like it. In fact, I found it a bit boring, samey and over-long - the backwards and forwards action along the same Underground tunnels is repetitive, Victoria is rather irritating and whines through all six episodes and the redesigned Yeti look cute rather than menacing. I know they were supposed to look scarier, but I preferred the original 'The Abominable Snowmen' version (but TBH, I would have preferred an altogether different, less fluffy alien threat in the Underground than the Yeti). Up until a recent rewatch, I was always very fond of this particular adventure (I liked the Quatermass influence in 'Web, the gritty, military vibe, the claustrophobic setting, the more grown-up dialogue and of course, the introduction of Lethbridge Stewart) and so I feel rather mean-spirited and ungrateful criticizing a serial from my beloved '60's era - a genuine childhood memory - but I struggle with watching it all the way through nowadays. Sorry folks.
