Am sure glad that they found this one in full - as that 3rd episode gave a completely wrong impression of it. A James Bond adventure on a BBC budget, but still great fun.
It's fun to watch Troughton enjoying himself as Salamander too.

Enemy of the World is a very visual story full of great direction - the helicopter escape from the beach in episode 1 is superbly executed for example.
Best of all is Victoria and Astrid on a park bench filmed in the studio in episode 2, with location footage of Jamie walking towards them as a backdrop.
Question is did Colin and Mary survive the explosion in episode 6?
8.5/10

I always remember Troughton wearing a fawn coloured outfit and having a Hitler moustache as a child, funny how the memory cheats you isn't it! JB

My eleven year old self didn't like this story as not 'sci-fi' enough, but I was delighted it was returned in full and have finally got to it again.
Just my view, but this show is currently seen as a 'restless kid's with no attention span programme' with everything piled on at once. THIS story may not have oput and out violence in it, but it's certainly NOT a 'children's' programme at all, as the story concept subtleties could arguably go over a pre-teen's head I feel as it did mine. FAR more interesting to watch as an adult. Love PT covering both characters so convincingly (OK, that was his training but his charisma helps no end), but Victoria seems little like the character we were introduced to in 'Evil' and maybe even 'Tomb' as well as she's grown up incredibly quickly...
I just have the immediate DVD first release. is the SE version worth getting? I'd arguably double dip if extras and further improved picture? is worth it.

The sleeve notes of the SE version (2018) say:
"Although restored for release in 2013, advances in technology have allowed this new Special Edition to undergo an extra spruce-up."
There is also a good 30 minute feature on Deborah Watling, looking back on her life and career.
The rest of the extras are not particularly interesting in my opinion and I have only watched them once. The main feature is a one hour documentary by Toby Hadoke.

Just rewatched Episode 1 of the Special Edition and found it superb - fast moving and action-packed. Back in 2013, I confess I wasn't that excited when it was announced that the missing 5 episodes had been recovered, but now each time I see it, I appreciate Troughton more and more. I usually find stories featuring Doppelgangers rather boring and predictable but The Enemy Of The World makes a nice change from all the monster-centric stories of Season 5.
7/10

It really grates. The good thing though was I was able to take the mickey out of it for a Something Who opening skit. The rest of the story is a gem hidden for decades.

I found the sole-surviving episode 3 very difficult to watch when I first saw it on The Troughton Years video back in the 90s. It's not easy to climb on board half way through with a story that's mainly missing, when you know very little about what's happened in the build-up to that episode. And because that was the sole-surviving episode until 2013, my opinion of Enemy was pretty low. Plus, if it hadn't been returned for us to be able to watch in full I would have voted it among my bottom 5 in our recent votes. But as a whole Enemy Of The World is a great story from beginning to end, and episode 1 is a thrilling start to it.
