Peri worked very well with the 5th Doctor, shame she didn't do a whole season with him.

Peri had a couple of good things going for her I say that.

Tweet doesn't really say much at all other than the TOTP transmission date. What you found on DS was more informative. Thank you.

That sounds *unbelievably* petty on JNT's part.
Just nasty.
As for the character of Peri, what always sits wrong with me is that as much as she was the show's most infamous sex symbol... usually you can tell when a woman really likes to flaunt it, and I never got that sense from Peri, either as a character or an actress. She always came off as uncomfortable in that role.
Nicola is a great actress, but having her have to put on that accent really did her no favours. The character was not good. And infact after we'd had a chain of strong, progressive female companions like Sarah Jane, Leela and Romana, where Doctor Who finally looked like it was about to escape its more chauvinist reputation..... Peri could not have been more of a regression for the show.
It's not just that she was eye-candy and a submissive cipher, but the kind of Doctor she was with and she was required to defer to, could not have made her seem more like a sufferer of stockholm syndrome. The companion usually has to agree and go along with with the Doctor, but in the 80's, the more irrational the Doctor became, the more wrong it seemed. At best it was unbelievable characterization, at worst it had a sinister undercurrent.
And not just in the sense that the Doctor treats her badly and violently, pretty much the whole show mistreats her regularly to the point it comes off mean-spirited.
The sad thing is, there are stories in isolation where she and the Doctor work well together, like Caves of Androzani, Revelation of the Daleks. There are moments in Vengeance on Varos I sense a genuine warmth between them that makes me forget about the abusive undertones elsewhere in the run. There's a brief bit in Mark of the Rani where she holds the Rani at gunpoint, and I think if nothing else of Peri's run existed, you'd think she was a tough, intelligent character after all.
Like I said elsewhere, if there's one thing I could change about her run, it's her ending. I would have brought her back properly in The Ultimate Foe as one of the Master's witnesses so the Doctor could have a proper goodbye with her, and be properly reassured she was unharmed.

Unfortunately, of course, that wasn't the worst of it for poor Nicola... From "JN-T" by Richard Marson: And, when JN-T passed away....

Must admit to being tempted to perhaps one day pick up the Big Finish release "Peri and the Piscon Paradox". Only because it promises to unravel all the confused "Trial" malarkey when it came to Peri's fate (although I am not sure how successfully it achieves this?).Chances are will never get it, owing to an instinctive Big Finish aversion, so have mixed feelings about getting this. Has anyone here heard it though? Doctor Who: Ultimate Trailer - Peri and the Piscon ParadoxSee also: Doctor Who Audios
