Have yet to watch the animation, but have heard good things about it.
I like the switching of settings from 1960's London, to Victorian times and then finally Skaro.

Always found Evil a bit too long and rambling, my opinion on it has changed a tad since viewing the animation, I concede its not bad but hardly the classic it's often touted as being. I still find the humanized/Dizzy Daleks bloody silly.

One of my earliest memories of the show and those Daleks coming in and out of those swinging doors has always to this day been in my mind as there was the doorway to Skaro itself! I just SO wish this story would be found and released to DVD (forget Blu as I don't have that) Great adventure and you can never have too much Patrick Troughton!!! JB

Loved it then and love it now. David Whitaker seemed to 'get' the Daleks better than anyone before or since on the telly, although the Dalek Empire audios are cracking too in making them more believable. 10/10 regardless and another where the more subtle aspects have come through as I've grown older..

Test animation for The Evil of the Daleks done by Qurios quite some years back.
Dr Who - Evil of the Daleks
Prefer the one we ended up with.

"There is only one form of life that matters: Dalek life."
Doctor Who finally encounters the Victorian Age - The Forsyte Saga had been a enormous hit a few months earlier on BBC 2 and following The Beatle's Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band LP, Victoriana was everywhere in the late '60s. Also, it's the first outing for the beautifully designed Dalek Emperor, the Daleks themselves are particularly devious here and check out their horrible, rasping voices in this serial -they've never sounded so unpleasant (speaking of unpleasant, we also get to see the ruthless, manipulative side to the Doctor's character in Evil). However, at 7 episodes, it does sag a bit in the middle, (Jamie and Kemel's fighting scenes seem to last forever) and some subplots and characters don't really go anywhere or add much to the story (for instance, Arthur Terrell and Ruth Maxtible and Toby, too). Also, I don't really understand Theodore Maxtible's passion for alchemy - surely the ability to travel through time would give him far more power/influence than a big pile of gold? Yet despite these niggles, Evil remains one of my all-time favourite Dalek tales and I really wish more than one episode existed, but the animated version and the Recons at least give us a taste of this classic serial. 10/10
