One of my favourite Hartnell serials and a unashamed pleasure all around. All the cast are on their A-game and their clear enjoyment shines through, the shift in locations is interesting and the comedy is side splitting at times (I love the dopey stuttering Dalek, Ian's dad dancing to Ticket To Ride and Hartnell yelling ''Yoo-Hoo! Archie!" has to be seen to be believed).
The only criticisms I can think of are despite being a stepping stone in the Daleks development (They can now master time travel), the lighter tone is somewhat jarring compared to the rest of the 60s Dalek saga and the Mechanoids never got a chance to shine again but in the end, I wouldn't chuck it for those and Masterplan does rectify the former pet peeve.
8/10

Barbara: Vicki!

Just finished watching the story again and Episode 6 is still a standout for me, especially given the small sets, the arguably small budget and lack of modern day effects. Doesn't matter at all as the cast and production team keep it tight and easy to suspend disbelief. Shame there's only three episodes of the Masterplan saga, but I can't wait to get there (I'll play the soundtracks I think and use what's left of my imagination ).

I have difficulty remembering where they are - stupid old man I am - but the ones I've seen are superb I have to say in all fairness and respect.

Is This Worst Doctor Who Episode Ever Made? No. Well, it's not great, but it's definitely nowhere near the worst.

Wasn't The Chase rumoured for repeat on the BBC back in the early 90s?
I remember buying a blank video specifically for it and then being really disappointed when it came to nothing.
I can't recall when the repeat was due exactly, but I'm guessing it was to tie in with the 30th in 1993.

THE TIME TUNNEL: Chase Through Time (2-24-67) featured Robert Duvall as a foreign spy who kills a technician, plants a bomb in The Time Tunnel, then runs into it and disappears into history. SAY WHAT? Doug & Tony get bounced around thru time trying to find him, and get him to reveal WHERE the bomb is before it blows the entire underground complex up. Thus you have the bizarre situation of characters in the far, far future "locked" together with the events in 1968. The time periods involved were 1547, 1,000,000 AD and 1,000,000 BC.
A lot of episodes of Irwin Allen's shows wound up being on the tacky side, but, somehow, this was one of the VERY best in the short run of this series (30 episodes).
And, obviously, this is another TT episode that was probably inspired by early DOCTOR WHO, which Americans didn't get to see until the mid-1980s!
I read many years ago that after slowly seeing the technicians painfully, bit by bit, come to terms with how to operate the TT complex, there WAS a final scene at the end of thr 30th episode that showed Doug & Tony FINALLY getting back to the complex in 1968. But some A-HOLE at ABC decided to remove it from the end of the episode, and replace it with a lead-in to the first rerun. (Neither of these wound up on the DVD. Instead, they tacked on a promo for the entire rerun season. I certainly never saw that when the show was first-run. Some people online who weren't alive back then mistakenly think that was broadcast when the last episode was first-run. IT WASN'T.)
So, in the mid-80s, it was such a refreshing relief to see Ian & Barbara actually MAKE IT BACK HOME at the end of "The Chase". And, whatta ya know? Their doing so WAS NOT the end of the series!!
It was always my belief that WHEN Doug & Tony made it back home at the end of the last story... the 2nd season (which was never made) would feature further time travel adventures... with either Doug or Tony being MORE in control of the time travel complex.
And, whatta ya know... late in Jon Pertwee's run, HE started being able to pilot the TARDIS with more control. Tom Baker's Doctor was so scatter-brained, it took him several whole seasons of stories before he began to get a handle on it again. Both Colin Baker & Sylvester McCoy seemed to be able to pilot the TARDIS with astonishing accuracy.

Don't think it would've been 1993 cos didn't they release it on VHS along with Remembrance as part of that Dalek Tin thing that year?

Unless I dreamed the whole thing.
