A great story despite William Hartnell flubbing his lines on the beach! The Voord only appearing in episodes one and six was a big mistake and that or later should have returned for another story but with Terry Nation writing it would just have been a rehash of this one! JB

I notice on the outside bag of this latest issue of DWM that it says... "Sixties Photo Discovery: On set with "The Keys of Marinus". I wonder if, indeed, some hitherto unseen shots of this story have been unearthed? Unfortunately I am too stingy to buy DWM these day - especially when it's got Jodie on the cover - and hope that whatever shots there are will be posted up online soon. ..

Let’s be honest, this one’s a bit crap.
The jumping around from place to place gets a bit tedious after a while.

"Our brains out-grew our bodies. It is our intelligence that has created this whole city, but we need the help of the human body to feed us and to carry out our orders."I made yet another attempt to watch The Keys of Marinus last night, but still couldn't get beyond the second episode ( 'The Velvet Web'). It features some rather effective scenes, especially the one where Barbara wakes up and sees the city of Morphoton for what it really is - old, dirty and decaying - not shiny and luxurious as the others see it. I also liked the 50's Sci Fi B-Movie style brains with eyeballs on stalks in glass jars, ruling the world with mind control, but alas, once Barb had smashed them up, I soon lost interest. I find the whole quest story dull, disjointed and simplistic and after starting off with four very good serials ( An Unearthly Child, The Daleks, Edge of Destruction and Marco Polo), The Key To Marinus is the show's first misstep. Being such a big Hartnell fan, I always feel like I should like this serial more than I actually do. 6/10
