I read the novelisation decades ago. It held my interest, but just barely. I couldn't bear to read all the long posts here, but I did appreciate the colorised photos.
I recall that back in the early 1990s, not long after the show had been cancelled, wishing that someone might get the idea to do REMAKES of the missing stories... especially if they could have gotten Ian Richardson to play The Doctor.

These days, when I think of Mark Eden, it's his starring role in CURSE OF THE CRIMSON ALTAR / THE CRIMSON CULT, which I saw twice in theatres, and was actually (though I didn't know it until quite recently) my 1st exposure to H.P. Lovecraft.

On the other hand, when I think of Derren Nesbitt, I immediately think of his role as a GESTAPO officer in WHERE EAGLES DARE.
Here's a fun video of "best" scenes (with someone commenting on them):

Funny thing is... BOTH Derren Nesbitt and Mark Eden were together in THE PRISONER episode "It's Your Funeral", which also features the absolutely adorable Annette Andre.

Now, when I think of "Marco Polo" these days, despite having seen the film MARCO THE MAGNIFICENT and te 80s mini-series MARCO POLO, the thing I really like was the later episode of THE TIME TUNNEL, "Attack Of The Barbarians", one of my favorites of the series.
This features John Saxon as Marco Polo, and Vitina Marcus as a girl Tony Newman falls in love with.
THE TIME TUNNEL did several stories that were also done on DOCTOR WHO... both involving time travellers, of course!
