I'd say he was a good choice, badly chosen.
That there was the germ of a good idea to his Doctor (and certainly moreso than with Davison's milquetoast incarnation), but they started on the worst first impression possible which made it feel like we weren't so much endeared to him as trying to clamor for excuses for him.
The strangulation scene for me was inexcusable, and made it so sometimes I didn't want him to survive the cliffhanger, or where Peri's doting over his safety gave off the uncomfortable air of stockholm syndrome.
Even his worst qualities could've been justified if applied well in the stories and scripts. His arrogance could've been vindicated if he'd been shown to come to intelligent resolutions rather than degenerating into any other witless, gun-toting action hero... or just being a bystander in his own show entirely. His ferocious nastiness might've been bearable or even championable if directed more at the nastiest villains and less at his long-suffering companion.
Sometimes we saw that potential realized, that he could've truly been one of the greats, but we also saw a lot that tainted him and the show beyond redemption. It does feel as though maybe Colin was the one with a solid idea, surrounded by creative figures who didn't anymore.

Doctor Who Colin Baker Interview Can't help noticing that Colin seems to be trembling/shaking a fair bit as he is talking - seeming unable to keep still. Hope he's not unwell?

I've been looking around and it seems as if he suffered from a mystery illness earlier this year.
Also, according to one result I got back from Google: "Colin Baker, of Cottage Grove, is currently in the intensive care unit at River Bend Hospital in Springfield. He is suffering from a rare and life threatening genetic disorder called Wilson's disease. With Wilson's disease, the body is unable to get rid of copper which builds up and damages vital organs."
However, I don't know if this refers to our specific Colin Baker.
PS - Some of the symptoms of Wilson's disease include...
Fatigue, lack of appetite or abdominal pain.
A yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eye.
Golden-brown eye discoloration.
Fluid buildup in the legs or abdomen.
Problems with speech, swallowing or physical coordination.
Uncontrolled movements or muscle stiffness.

He's on Twitter and seems alright. Think he was at some convention or something at the weekend. Recently had cataract surgery I believe.
