A nice snapshot of when JN-T and Colin were confidently sailing and coasting along through the newly-minted Sixth Doctor Era, having just completed Season 22, which is due to air - and happily bracing themselves for (the original) Season 23, shortly before a great big silver hammer landed on the show, via Grade and Powell.
Time markers for every question thrown at them....
Q & A with Colin Baker & John Nathan Turner ~19840:15 - "Have you considered doing a season without anything from the past?"
1:10 - "By accepting a good script, do you accept that it creates continuity problems?"
1:50 - "Having done one Gallifrey story as Maxil, would you like to do another one as the Doctor?"
2:30 - (
Question regarding the possibility of a "Six Doctors" story at some point, considering that Patrick has just returned for "The Two Doctors".)3:35 - "Is the Doctor going to keep up his habit of repeating things he says several times over?"
3:55 - "If the Sixth Doctor went back to Gallifrey, would he meet the Raston Warrior Robot?"
4:15 - "As there were soldiers in "Resurrection of the Daleks", did you consider making it a Unit story?"
5:10 - "How do you feel about the fact that, after "The Twin Dilemma" was aired, you (Colin) were confronted by two Peter Davison repeats and a repeat of "The Five Doctors", before you actually get to be seen on-screen again? That's a funny act to follow, isn't it, in a way?
5:55 - "Who else is going to be in the Doctor Who pantomime?"
(Possible audience plant? Suspect it is Production Secretary, Sara Lee, as, not only is she clearly holding up the Panto box office number for JN-T to read out, but they also indicate/motion to her later in the same location, at 15:33)
8:15 - "The new Doctor was very fond of quoting poetry in his debut story. Will this continue?"
8:40 - "In retrospect, do you think you tried to cram too much into "The Five Doctors"?
9:30 - "John, what made you decide to change the TARDIS console?"
10:15 - "While we're on the subject of the new console are you (Colin) planning on standardising the operation of that - or are you gonna fly around at random, the controls?"
11:50 -
(Difficult to hear question, roughly asking "If Patrick was flutes, and Jon was gadgets, what will your Doctor's "thing" be?)12:20 - "I'd like to ask you both, what is your opinion of the approach that the popular press have towards the show?"
13:50 - "What do you think of the opening credits? And are you planning to change them?"
15:08 -
(Moderator tries to begin to wind down the session and allow only two more questions, but JN-T and Colin insist on carrying on.)
15:45 - "What was the reason for the change in format (to 45 minutes) this year?"
17:15 - "Is there any chance of the Plasmatons coming back?"
17:50 - "When are you (JN-T) leaving?"
18:40 - "Will there be any more Doctor Who videos (released on Home Video)?"
19:35 - "Why did the location filming in New Orleans fall through?"
(John mentions his hope that they will be filming in Singapore in 1985)
20:10 - (Question about the possibility of a Doctor Who movie.)
21:00 - (Rather long-winded question that boils down to - "I don't like the new theme music (or titles). Why can't you go back to the original Ron Grainer theme (and titles)?")
23:20 - "If you're going to Singapore, is there any chance you could take a holiday to Nigeria (to collect some Missing Episodes)?"
(John reveals that he intends to call in at the Singapore TV station to see if they have anything.)
24:00 - "If the BBC are so keen to get the stories back, why don't they repeat them more?"
(John reveals that he was recently trying to put together a "The Six Faces of Doctor Who" repeat season.)
25:50 - "Is there any use of the Chameleon Circuit in Season 22?"
26:10 - "Are you (Colin) wearing tasteless underpants?"
26:50 - "Which story have you (John) been least happy with?"
28:05 - "Why did you redesign the Silurians and the Sea Devils" in "Warriors of the Deep"?"
28:50 - "Are the Cybermen going to be redesigned for "Attack"?"
30:20 - "Is there any chance of Home Video prices going down?"
31:35 - "How much control do you have over the violence in the show?"
32:35 - "Do you take any notice of what's said in the Radio Times?"
33:20 - "Is Pat Troughton's TARDIS console room going to come back (in "The Two Doctors") - and will you be getting a hat this season?"
34:00 - "Is there any way you can control stories being issued unedited on Home Video".
(John refers to the recent, badly edited "disasters like 'The Brain of Morbius'")
34:40 -
(Difficult to hear final question about what Colin thinks of Billy Hartnell - or something. )
