'Ere just a minute! that ain't the way to make a fruitcake!
The beginning and end scenes with K9 in the Tardis jar with the rest of the story and are very childish - a sign of things to come.
But overall a very entertaining story.
8.5/10

'Twas a good and creepy story that had a sort of gothic feel to it. Borrowed a bit from Quatermass and the Pit didn't it.

I give it a 10 regardless! Why? It's got Col. Virginia Lake in it - oh alright, the still elegant and very classy Wanda Ventham I'll forgive the story anything because she's in it... Actually, the story's not too bad either. The DVD's got next to nothing as extras though (nothing to say or interviewees thin on the ground?).

"You know summat, John? There's going to come a time when I'll be too old for this sort of thing".
There are elements of Quatermass, HP Lovecraft and British Folk Horror in Image of The Fendahl - it's very atmospheric, creepy and clever - possibly the highlight of Season 15. Great cast too - Wanda Ventham, Dennis Lill and Daphne Heard, amongst others. For me, this is one of the most chilling Who serials -it's what modern stuff like The Unquiet Dead, Hide and Night Terrors wishes it could be (but isn't). 9/10

I gotta be honest, this was one I really HATED early-on. The mystery didn't make sense to me at first, half the characters behave stupidly, the one really beautiful girl in it gets KILLED by the end, and that outfit Leela was wearing, combined with a BAD hair-do, made her look like A HOOKER.
It grew on me a bit over the decades...
"Do not worry, Doctor, I will protect you."
I also got a kick out of it when Leela describes the Doctor as having, "great knowledge-- and gentleness." CUT to Baker ANGRILY kicking a box in the room he's been locked up in. FUNNY!
Leela did fix her hair after, but that lingerie passing as a costume sadly did return. They should have gotten her something different and better to wear.
While I must have seen Wanda Ventham before this, it was this story that really made me notice her. Not quite so young here, she was still VERY BEAUTIFUL. In later years, when I'd see her pop on on shows in the early-mid 60s, I was STUNNED at how incredibly-beautiful she was when she was younger.
I also remember a few years ago, when I went to the theatre to see the ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS movie, more then 3/4ths of the way thru, when they get to what Patsy said was a "late-life lesbo party", my eyes popped when I recognized Wanda Ventham. SO MUCH older, but it was definitely her! That really made me smile.
DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE once did an interview with both Wanda Ventham and Donald Pickering, who she appeared with in 2 different WHO stories (the one I saw being "Time And The Rani"). They described how, while married to other people, they had remained best friends over the years, and every time they got together, they could NOT STOP laughing. And this became a problem for directors, any time they'd find themselves working together. I found this so hilarious-- the image of Donald Pickering, so typecast as stuck-up, serious, humorless types, laughing uncontrollably. It really stuck in my head.
The one role of his that always stuck with me was the RETURN OF THE SAINT episode "The Arrangement". I had no idea for many years it was a swipe of STRANGER ON A TRAIN. Two wives, bored with their husbands, talk about killing the other's spouse so there'd be no motive. But one doesn't realize, the other is serious-- and INSANE. The "good" wife was played by Sarah Douglas (yes, "Ursa" from SUPERMAN). The "bad" wife was Carolyn Seymour. My favorite bit is near the beginning, when a drunk acosts her on a plane. She says the greatest put-down I've ever heard:
"Why don't you give me your number? If I'm ever feeling DESPERATELY DEPRAVED-- I'll give you a call."
