It's a great story with lots of good ideas. Sadly let down by the SFX work with the dinosaurs..
Having said that, I thought the scene with the Brigadier in the Underground, with the Triceratops works rather well.
Well, at least from what I remember.. Not watched it in about 10 years.

You know, I don't remember this on original transmission, but I had a Saturday job by then and I reckon I was travelling home when it was on. This carried on through a lot of Tom Baker's era as well although we did have a telly at work so I could watch Genesis right through.. Following the extras on the DVD and appreciating the sheer hard work from all involved, I can now happily watch this and suspend huge amounts of disbelief. The cast act their socks off as usual back then and to once again see central London all but deserted when I suspect today, it's busy all night through as well as daytime, is fascinating to me. A VERY over-ambitious story for the times and budget, but I can forgive it loads as the basic storyline, production and acting standards are so very good, at least to me

"it wasn’t until a while afterwards that it dawned on everyone that there was no need to have gone to all the time and expensive of building a full-sized suit They could have achieved exactly the same effect using a puppet two feet tall, operated by rods."

Following a truncated syndication package of Pertwee in the early 70s, we got Tom Baker's 1st 4 years in May'79.
We also got the 10 US versions of the novelizations... including "Invasion of the Dinosaurs". Read it and enjoyed it very much.
But it wasn't until late '83 that we got most of Pertwee's stories-- ONLY the ones in color, mind you. PBS at the time got this STUPID idea in their head that American's didn't want to watch B&W stories, or might be confused by them.
I don't honestly remember if "Planet of the Daleks" and "Invasion of the Dinosaurs" was included in the 1st Pertwee package, or the 2nd one the following year. But BOTH epiodes were run as 5-PARTERS! I believe "Planet" was missing episode 3 (or was it 4?) while "Dinosaurs" was missing episode 1. The reason those 2 episodes were missing, of course, were they were in BLACK AND WHITE, while the rest of the stories were in COLOR. If anyone at PBS thought 1 B&W episode in an otherwise COLOR story would "confuse" people, wouldn't having 25 MINUTES of a 2-1/2 hour story missing be EVEN WORSE?
(Come to think of it, "Planet" may also have been released here as a novel in '79, not sure. Seems like I read it then.)
I liked "Dinosaurs" for the most part, but, like NEARLY EVERY Pertwee 6-parter, GOOD GOD, it dragged on and on and ON too damned long. (Tom Baker 6-parters had figured out how to avoid this.)
I definitely liked Sarah with shorter hair (I first saw her in "Robot", where she remnded me more than anything of England's answer to Lois Lane).
One of my favorite bits is when Sarah gets inpatient, runs off, The Doctor wonders where she is, is told she ran off, then says...
"You know, sometimes that girl BAFFLES me!"
I find this HILARIOUS. Because now, HE knows exactly how THE BRIGADIER feels about HIM!
They were made for each other. (You can see in "The Time Warrior" part one how, INSTANTLY, the Doctor took a liking to her. More than with Liz, and totally the opposite of his first reaction to Jo. He may have been an "old man", but I believe Sarah REMINDED him of how it felt to be a YOUNG man. I really do.)
It was DECADES later when I fnally found episode 1 ON YOUTUBE and watched it. Along with "Planet" episode 3 (or 4). Imagine my SHOCK. In BOTH cases, the "MISSING" episodes-- were the BEST PARTS of the stories!!!
Those STUPID BASTARDS at PBS!!! (I still do not have those 2 episodes in my video collection.)

I totally agree with the idea spelled out about trimming an episode here and there from those various stories. An extra 4-parter could have been marvelous.
And, yes, I rank this story along with ALL 3 Amicus Edgar Rice Burroughs movies as things I've LOVE to see the special effects REPLACED on. The writing in the 2 "Caprona" films was AWFUL ENOUGH, but those dinosaurs really hurt on top of that. (The "Pellucidar" story was the best of the 3... and they weren't real dinosaurs, just fictional monsters. Even so, CGI wld definitely help, especially if they used Russ Manning artwork as their design model.)
I keep forgetting John Bennett was in this. I swear, every time I see him, I think of "Lee T'sien Chang, Magician Extraordinaire"! Isn't it funny, I remember him more UNDER ALL THAT make-up than I do for his own face?
"Haven't I seen you before somewhere?" "I understand-- we all-- look alike."
