The extended VNS edition is the only version that does it justice. Loved it as a kid, still do now. The documentary on the DVD is good but I wish the VHS "Making of" had been included.

Well if nothing else, I thought the Cybermen looked great.

And a bit too soon to be ripping of "Remembrance of the Daleks" surely - with yet another Time Lord ultimate weapon wiping out the fleet of yet another Classic monster? See... this only works if viewed as the season finale, AS IT WAS INTENDED. That way, the Daleks & Cybermen stories act as bookends, and the Cybermen plot races by so fast specifically because we've already seen it before with the Daleks.
The BBC just couldn't stop F***ing over this show, could they?
Always, ALWAYS watch "The Greatest Show in the Galaxy" between "Remembrance of the Daleks" and "The Happiness Patrol". The entire short season works wayyyyyyyyyyy better that way.
Sophie Aldred's comments about the scripts being too long was really spot-on. It shows she knew what she was doing more than Andrew Cartmel.
Having scripts that are to long and then editing them down after they've been recorded is why so many of McCoy's stories make less sense than they should. To me, this is first-year film school stuff, and reveals terrible amateurism behind-the-scenes.

Another one I thought was crap on first watching. I think I have the special edition on VHS somewhere still, but returning to ther DVD, the continuing rather lacklustre commentaries (Tom, Peter and Colin's were so much more lively I felt), has improved my view on things a bit, but not by much. Sylv seemed to be getting a bad rap at the time as well, but the introduction of a darker side I did find interesting, a darker side that NuWho totally stomped over, not realising that it's what we DON'T know that makes for a more interesting back-story.
