Fury From The Deep, colour animation, needed some colour as outside is so grey and gloomy, where's the sunshine?!!! I'm surprised i didn't moan to myself about those feckin arms, i must have got used to them, still an absolute gem of a story, so atmospheric and of course Maggie Harris walking into the sea never gets any less haunting. Regards HGL. Fury From The Deep - a great serial and one of my first Who memories. A pity the animated version is spoiled slightly by the poorly realized cartoon style - scenes which should be terrifying sometimes appear more comical. Imagine this classic tale redone in the style of NuWho -all 6 episodes crammed into just 45 minutes - Ncuti's Doctor cries when Victoria decides to stay with the Harrises.

Saw Planet of the Daleks last night. I have no idea why I watched this; haven't seen it for 17 years and never much liked it, always thought it was pretty boring. But for some reason I got the idea into my head to watch it last night and... quite liked it, actually. It's too long and I did start to flag a bit in the last half hour, but it was fun enough. The new fx were awful though, esp the dreadful CGI ship in the last episode that sticks out like a sore thumb. Why even bother when they're worse than the originals?!!?

Day Of The Daleks
To celebrate Jon Pertwee's Birthday, I watched the first episode of the Special Edition version of this smashing Season 9 adventure. Usually I prefer the original rather than the revamped, updated version of a story but I really can't stand the weak, limp Dalek voices of the 1972 episodes. There's so many interesting ideas in DOTD - the 'haunting' of Sir Reginald Styles in Auderly House, the time travel stuff, Daleks and Ogrons in the future and the threat of World War Three and the peace conference in the present day. Best of all is the Doctor's appreciation of cheese and wine; “You know, one thing you can be certain of with politicians, is that whatever their political ideas, they always keep a well-stocked larder.” .
Without a doubt, this is one of my very favourite Dalek tales.

I had a dream about Fury from the Deep the other night. I dreamt it, along with The Ice Warriors, got returned from NZ and ended up in the same storage facility in Sydney as DMP. Wouldn’t that be nice. I must confess I’ve never thought about Classic Who done Nu Who style, but I’d imagine some Pertwee’s wouldn’t be so bad being only 45 minutes.

( but far worse - imagine the opposite - Space Babies stretched out to 6 or 7 episodes. I think that would be the very definition of Television Hell.)

I haven't thought about it either but that's because I've got standards...

Must confess I still haven’t seen Space Babies (like iank I have standards), but perhaps two episodes of just running around with supremely bad acting from the supporting cast may improve it. You never know!

You never know! I made the (drunken) mistake of actually watching 'Space Babies' and I can assure you that nothing could possibly improve it. Nothing at all. And from what I read and heard, the whole of the last series featured bad acting from all the cast, so I think there was little hope of any improvement, anyway. I've said it before Servo, you just never got over 'The Time Monster...'

Or Monster from Peladon, or Colony in Space.
But then I quite like Planet of the Daleks, so it isn’t quite that clear cut.
Regarding Day of the Daleks we were very lucky in Australia every time a new series finished we seemed to have a repeat season commencing with Spearhead from Space followed by Day of the Daleks. We got to see it all the time. One year we actually had all the ones in between. They were happy days.

I'm glad there were some Pertwee serials that made you happy back then. As a kid, my fondest memories of that period are from reading Target novelisations - my two favourite being Doctor Who And The Cave Monsters and Doctor Who And The Day Of The Daleks. Without the Target books, I doubt I would have been such a big fan of the show.

Personally, I don't dislike The Monster Of Peladon, I just find it poor in comparison to The Curse Of Peladon which is, in my eyes, one of the greats of the Pertwee era. If 'Curse' had never happened and 'Monster' had just been standalone rather than a follow-up then it might have been better....maybe. Trimmed to 4 episodes it wouldn't feel so arduous either. Having said that though, the dodgy ill-fitting Ice Warrior costume bugs me on every rewatch, and Ettis gets on my wick, no matter what the episode length.

I agree entirely, but on the plus side, I do think that Sarah Jane is outstanding in Monster.Thalira: " It would be different if I was a man. But I'm only a girl."Sarah: " Now just a minute. There's nothing "only" about being a girl, Your Majesty".But mostly, the whole thing is just a dull retread of Curse and is far too long at 6 episodes.

The Keys Of Marinus
"Yes, and if you'd had your shoes on, my boy, you could have lent her hers". (?!)
Yet another attempt to watch this six part serial from Season 1. I quite like the first episode -'The Sea Of Death', but I soon realized this is simply Terry Nation revisiting ideas he previously explored in the first part of the The Daleks ('The Dead Planet') . The whole thing feels rather cheap, pulpy and disposable.
I'll soldier on..

Initially, he's a scary, lust driven man, trying (it seems) to sexually assault Barbara... But when she goes, his terrible loneliness makes you feel for him. A fantastic piece of TV.

The Snows Of Terror - Episode 4. Agreed, that's my favourite episode of this story. Extremely atmospheric.
