Think this is a bit crap personally.
The miners run around with badgers on their heads, Ralph Knight shockingly overacts as Ettis.
While it’s good to see the Ice Warriors being bad ass again, the fact we don’t see them until more than halfway through the story is a bit disappointing.
In many ways it’s just a rehash of The Curse of Peladon, except longer and duller.
Nina Thomas is lovely though. The only other thing I ever saw her in was episode of The Sweeney.

The first Peladon story that I saw, with Season 11 being my first full season of 'Who' that I watched. The only thing I recalled of it at the time were Alpha Centauri and the scene with the Doctor and Sarah being confronted by Aggedor, with all the hypnotic song malarkey. I think it's far too long at six episodes. Just daft to spin it out to that length. If it were another 4 parter things might be more palatable, but it would still, I suspect, feel like warmed up leftovers of the "Curse" tale. I do think Eckersley's betrayal is a nice twist though. And at least we got this Weetabix card out of it - which seems to imply - bizarrely - that Vega Nexos is a major player, mover and shifter in the Doctor Who universe - rather than just a quickly despatched incidental character?

There is no way that I can give a Pertwee story anything less than a nine! I loved this story on first broadcast and still do! so wonderful to see The Ice Warriors back again and the old costumes were unearthed for this one as the Martian Warriors in the tunnels appear, even the one with the abnormally large head!!! Although I'm very fond of The Curse Of Peladon and generally like Pertwee's final Season, The Monster Of Peladon is not a Third Doctor adventure I'm particularly keen on. It's like an overlong, less-exciting version of Curse, more-or-less the same story. The Ice Warriors in Curse turned out to be surprisingly trust-worthy, whereas in Monster, they are back to their old belligerent ways and I think we'd have more sympathy with the Peladonian miners if they didn't have such ludicrous badger-headed haircuts. Yet I quite like the dialogue between Sarah Jane and the Queen Thalira, where SJS gets to say: "There's nothing 'only' about being a girl, your majesty". The weakest story of Season 11. 5/10

Odd silly bit of trivia. Someone on Twitter spotted that during this video ( 1974: Making MATCH OF THE DAY | In Vision) the BBC Archive stuck out, episode six of " The Monster of Peladon" can be seen going out on the far right monitor... More here on this Twitter feed.

Sometimes the script is a bit 'dumbed down' I think, but I enjoyed it, not having watched it for many many years. The Ice warrior actors don't look very tall to me but again, I think the production does seem serious and all concerned trying to tell a convincing story.
