Although it's no doubt nice to be off work, I'm sorry to hear you have COVID - hope you get better soon. "Things growing in this jungle seem more like animal than plant life".Probably because I like Day Of The Daleks and Death to the Daleks so much (as well as loving the first half - The Frontier in Space) I've never really gone for Planet in a big way. I do enjoy watching Jo on her own in the first episode, trying to dodge the squirty plants, and it's always nice to see Bernard Horsfall and Prentis Hancock but alas, it all feels very much like Terry Nation's Greatest Hits However, I think its another of those Who serials I need to rewatch and re-evaluate. Thanks mate. It's cleared up so far but not out the woods yet. Anyways, I agree about Day being better as well as being one of the best Pertwee stories full stop, but I've never liked Death much, I'm afraid. In fact, I'd go as far as saying it's the worst Dalek story of the Classic Series. The story is a watered down re-tread of Power but instead of that stories twist of showing the Daleks guile and cunning, they end up coming across as rather pathetic in Death, getting blown up after being tapped on the head with sticks and hissy fitting themselves to death after Sarah escapes not to mention the kazoos of death that show up every time they come into frame. Fair enough, I accept that Death To The Daleks isn't the best-loved Dalek serial, and your criticisms all hold true. I suspect that part of fan dislike is based on Carey Blyton's unique incidental music - I quite like it (I have strange taste in music!) but I can perfectly understand why fans may find it silly, irritating and off-putting. Another reason why I prefer Death to Planet is that I distinctly remember watching Death as a kid, whereas, I have no such childhood memory for Planet - I don't even remember reading the Target book version. My first encounter with Planet was in 1999, when the VHS was released alongside Revelation Of The Daleks in a snazzy tin box and unfortunately, I was so enamored with Revelation, that Planet was inevitably ignored a bit. Also, Planet, in a sense, is the second half of a larger story and I'm very keen on the first half ( Frontier In Space) and tend to judge Planet less favourably (perhaps unfairly), when compared to Frontier. Finally, (and here's the clincher) as much as I like Jo Grant, I much prefer Sarah Jane Smith. But it's Classic Who and it's all good. Besides, I still think The Monster of Peladon is the worst Pertwee serial.

Planet's got Daleks in it and that's (almost) enough for me.. Some clunkers though - The TARDIS is supposed to be absolutely huge if not the ginormous size hinted at in Tom's era, so why the immediate running out of air? I appreciate allowed set-room wouldn't allow showing of the rooms off the control room, but still... The Dalek props were ageing noticeably and just splodging a load of paint on them wasn't really enough with brush strokes sometimes showing (maybe matt paint would have been better?)- like the poster above, I did like the gunmetal tint of what was the gold dalek from previous stories. One aspect apparently is that the new series steam-punk stylee Daleks were/are reportedly very carefully stored to maintain their condition. Freezing the dalek so the case could be opened to extract the creature leaving enough space for a humaniod to climb inside still contradicts what was drawn in the comics and annuals I grew up with of the assemblies and so on inside the casing's internals, preventing anything but an octous-like creature from occupying it's little life-support chamber Still, I liked it and the parachute up the chimney in addition to the view looking down on a Dalek ascending (obviousaly not able to hovver and fly as they can these days ) was good to see.

Well into watching it now and liking it despite the derived story and DIRE condition of the Dalek props which the glossy paint makes worse The lack of budget really shows in this one I think, but everyone tries so hard.

Never been a fan of this one, always founnd it boring, yet watched it a couple of months back and really enjoyed it. Maybe even the lesser stories of classic just look, well, classic, compared to today's shite?

Maybe, although I think this one is a lot better than Destiny of the Daleks.
Somehow I don’t think I’ll ever think Timelash is a work of art in comparison to the last episode (I’ve already forgotten what it’s called).
They’re both crap.
