Very likely the first story I ever saw on broadcast. I do remember the cliffhanger ending with the chimney and the parachute.
I know that this story is often accused of being a copy of the first Hartnell Dalek story, but, if so, it's done with such sleight of hand that it's fairly well disguised imo.
I also like the wacky concept of an "ice-volcano". Lovely stuff.

My love for this story is rather sentimental. It was the first Doctor Who story I saw after I returned from a holiday in the UK. I’d seen the some of the next seasons episodes in colour over there, but it was back to b&w for this story.
I didn’t see it in colour (or again) until well over 10 years later.

Yes, apparently Terry Nation used to try to sell the production team the same Dalek story over and over until Terry and Barry said no, go and write us a new version for a change and that's how we got Genesis of The Daleks! Strange how the previous serial where the TARDIS goes off in pursuit of the Daleks is virtually ignored here without any reasoning to why The Doctor and Jo have gone after their enemy for the most part although I think there is one reference to it in episode four am I right? JB

Guess the Daleks cutting through the door bit gave me an anxious moment there that always stuck with me.

One drawing used for each of the 6 Radio Times episode billings. I'm not a big fan of Planet of the Daleks but those illustrations are smashing. I love how simple little black and white pics like this were used to promote telly shows in the '60s and '70s.

Currently off work with COVID at the minute and decided to watch this in the early hours following a sleepless night.
Needless to say, I've always had a fondness for this story and found it the perfect ''lazy afternoon'' story (Nothing significant, easy to digest story and well made all around) and re-watching it again has reinforced that belief. It is the weakest of Season 10 and it does have it's foibles. The obvious being that it doesn't have the strongest of stories as it's Terry Nation's equivalent to a Daleks Greatest Hits album as well as it soon forgets about the more original and interesting story of Frontier in Space and we never get any closure on that. The Thals are great but the brief soap opera moment with Taran and Rebec is a bit mawkish and Pertwee's speech about glamorising war at the end feels a bit preachy and not Nation at his most subtle.
But in spite of that, I do genuinely enjoy it a lot and it's well made on all accounts on the acting, production and direction. (the production is the closest a Dalek story got to bringing the TV21 comics to life with it's greens and purples and the Supreme Dalek who still looks just as striking as it did when I first saw it as a 6 year old. Plus, I prefer the almost black gunmetal grey Daleks of here and Day to the more blue tinted greys from Genesis and the light grey models from Destiny. Only the glossy greys from Resurrection and Revelation come close.)
Not a classic but a charming pulp adventure which endears itself nonetheless.
7/10

Needless to say, I've always had a fondness for this story and found it the perfect ''lazy afternoon'' story (Nothing significant, easy to digest story and well made all around) and re-watching it again has reinforced that belief. I know it's not the most original or interesting Dalek story but it's still a highly entertaining escapist science fiction pulp adventure that's brought to life well by the actors and production values and the Dalek Supreme still looks as strikingly magnificent as it did as a 6 year old. Plus, I prefer the almost black gunmetal grey Daleks of here and Day to the more blue tinted greys from Genesis and the light grey models from Destiny. Only the glossy greys from Resurrection and Revelation come close. 9/10Although it's no doubt nice to be off work, I'm sorry to hear you have COVID - hope you get better soon. "Things growing in this jungle seem more like animal than plant life".Probably because I like Day Of The Daleks and Death to the Daleks so much (as well as loving the first half - Frontier in Space) I've never really gone for Planet in a big way. I do enjoy watching Jo on her own in the first episode, trying to dodge the squirty plants, and it's always nice to see Bernard Horsfall and Prentis Hancock but alas, it all feels very much like Terry Nation's Greatest Hits However, I think its another of those Who serials I need to rewatch and re-evaluate.

Just watched again.
'Planet Of The Daleks' - it's basically 'The Daleks' revisited and the weakest of the Third Doctor Dalek stories. However, I liked the bonkers idea of erupting ice volcanoes, the Dalek Supreme's ship looks cool (like something from a 50's Sci Fi film) and I couldn't help fancying the lovely Rebec (Jane How). Pertwee was dressed stylishly in burgundy and pink.

Thanks mate. It's cleared up so far but not out the woods yet. Anyways, I agree about Day being better as well as being one of the best Pertwee stories full stop, but I've never liked Death much, I'm afraid. In fact, I'd go as far as saying it's the worst Dalek story of the Classic Series. The story is a watered down re-tread of Power but instead of that stories twist of showing the Daleks guile and cunning, they end up coming across as rather pathetic in Death, getting blown up after being tapped on the head with sticks and hissy fitting themselves to death after Sarah escapes not to mention the kazoos of death that show up every time they come into frame.
