I know it doesn't seem to be a very popular story, but I think it's okay. At least we get to see a bit of Amsterdam and the return of Omega. It's a shame that they couldn't - or didn't try to get - Stephen Thorne, but his replacement does a decent enough job, I thought.
There is no way, seeing Colin Baker in this story, that I would think "Wow! There's a potential Doctor if ever there was one!" - to be honest.
The coincidence of Tegan turning up, I have always assumed was the "cosmic influence" of either the Mara or the Black Guardian or both, explaining "the level of coincidence in all this" - to quote 'Mawdryn Undead".

Always found this one a bit flat.

Arc of Infinity - not a classic, but the acting is generally good.
This story is far better than I remembered - shame about the Ergon though.
6/10

Another cutting I used to have. Mum and Dad used to get the Daily Mirror regularly, that's where I nabbed mine from. Who's Daring Darlings

Not watched Arc Of Infinity for a long time - it isn't the most exciting 5th Doctor serial is it? The Time Lord/Gallifrey stuff is plodding, Omega sounds terribly pompous and half sends me to sleep, but the scenes with Colin (Tegan's cousin) and Robert in Amsterdam are almost interesting. Hope its gets better...

In its way, "The Three Doctors" was a classic on many levels.
There NEVER should have been a HALF-ASS pathetic attempt at a lame sequal as this one was.
What's worse? The whole "two students lost in Amsterdam" thing? Tegan showing up just when we thought we were finally RID of her? The absurd attempts at mystery of not saying who "Omega" was when it was clear from the first who he was? A really lame version of Borusa (after TWO different amazing versions of him before)? Michael Gough being TOTALLY wasted in a guest role?
Oh-- oh-- I know! It's THE TIME LORDS flat-out deciding, NOT to ask The Doctors help, but to announce, as a given, that they're going to EXECUTE him for something HE HAD NOTHING to do with! F*** the Time Lords!!!
And where did they find and recruit a security guard like Maxil from anyway? The IDF?
This story is a piece of S*** from start to finish. It has to be down there with "Warriors of the Deep", "Timelash" and "Mindwarp".

The Three Doctors is simply the best celebratory, multiple Doctor story. None of the others are anywhere near as good, and Omega should not have been brought back. Arc of Infinity doesn't have a lot to recommend it, except perhaps the Amsterdam location filming and the very first appearance of Mr. Colin Baker ( and that's only if you actually like the 6th Doctor). Not Davison's finest hour.

In it's defence, I do like the new design for Omega...

I find some of the commentaries hilarious and Colin Baker appearing in a more laid back fashion, shows that he was mostly directed to be so awkward, at least to me (bloody JNT!). Janet Fielding looks great despite the (sometimes too revealing apparently) boob tube So no, I can't slate it as many here have. The cast back then were envious of NuWho, the TARDIS coral set and the faster tighter pace. I wonder if they'd say that now? A comment was made (I think by PD) that taking an old classic story and editing it to make it faster paced might improve these old stories - well, we've seen what a disaster that can be in the butchered Dalek story (well, I think it was worse than disastrous!).

Don't forget a long time before The Daleks butchery, the Beeb done cutdown versions of Enlightenment and Planet of Fire and tarted them up with new effects and suchlike for their DVD releases. Don't recall them being very well received either. Utterly pointless exercise if you ask me.
