I remember, as a kid, the scene where the TARDIS console explodes, to the accompaniment of car horns and ending with a twanging ruler was the first time that 'Doctor Who' on the telly had ever really tried my patience.

I remember, as a kid, the scene where the TARDIS console explodes, to the accompaniment of car horns and ending with a twanging ruler was the first time that 'Doctor Who' on the telly had ever really tried my patience. Yeh, I'm surprised that that scene hasn't been modified over the years on DVD so that those dreadful horns etc could be edited out and something more appropriate overdubbed in its place. I'm sure even the biggest puritan can't defend its inclusion and say it's worth retaining. It's utterly embarrassing. As for the rest of the story, I really enjoy it. It's good fun. I never saw it on first transmission and only watched it when it was released on video. Aware of its ghastly reputation I was poised to hate it, but apart from that shocking scene mentioned above, I love it. Yeh, I've got a big ole soft spot for this one.

I liked this one! Creature From The Pit was horrible except for Myra Frances and Romana in that white dress! The Nimons were a good baddie, brought back by Big Finish but those high heels had to go! The black hole technology was great and the Crinoth city scenes were brilliant! John Bailey was also back! yippeee! JB

I liked this one! Creature From The Pit was horrible except for Myra Frances and Romana in that white dress! JB I think The Horns Of Nimon bears the brunt of a huge amount of flack thrown at Season 17 in general. If it's to do with *that* scene in the TARDIS with the console exploding, then I get it, because it's like nails down a blackboard for me too. But it's just one scene. Other than that I don't think there's much else to throw a great deal of criticism at. I agree that the poor story of the season was The Creature From The Pit, and not this one, and that Myra Frances is one of that production's saving graces. For me, Season 17 is better than its reputation deserves. I see a lot more to like in this season than I do in Season 15.

I liked the TARDIS console scene with the explosions and sounds to be honest! The TARDIS we keep being told is very old and it's circuitry is breaking down hence the modifications that the Doctor is continually doing to keep the old girl afloat in the oceans of time and space! The TARDIS console they do today (not that I've seen it) and the early Matt Smith's decorations were pretty horrible and looked stupid! his later console room looked much better and more in the style of what we always knew he could do with the TARDIS! The Peter Brachacki original TARDIS console prop has always been my favourite of the lot despite it's stuck on notes and labels to identify which controls do what! JB

I got a book of fridge magnets from "The Works" shop years ago - all of science fiction covers of yesteryear - and this one always reminds me of this story.... Goodreads

Love The Horns of Nimon. Ridiculously underappreciated. A very solid story, and very funny. I remember seeing this for the first time in late 1991 on The Afternoon Show on ABC not long after emigrating, and being completely baffled by its shoddy reputation with the sheep brigade.
