Despite feeling a little deflated at the time after viewing it in 1983 (I had been following the development of it via Doctor Who Monthly and all the returning names made it sound like it was going to be the greatest adventure of all time), considering the amazing juggling act of actor's availability and the constantly changing demands of the script, I think Terrance does a wonderful job in giving us something so coherent that holds together as a proper adventure.
I always loved the concept of the Death Zone and the Dark Tower. And love the irony that the Raston Warrior Robot ended up stealing the show when he was a completely last-minute addition born our of the necessity for the 3rd Doctor to have one more hurdle to face.
With so many of the faces involved now gone makes for even more reason to cherish this tale imo.

I remember hearing about this in summer 1982 and hoping the next eighteen months slipped away quickly! I enjoyed it a lot back on the night I must admit. I loved seeing the doctors together again although I prefer The Three Doctors much more and the Cybermen being the main adversary outside of Borusa! The bad points were why they had to change Patrick Troughton's timeline as the Doctor and his aging which of course he couldn't have helped. Jamie not being in it was also a loss and of course Tom Baker not appearing which I first found out about at the 1983 big Longleat show when Anthony Ainley told all of us fans that Tom was not in it and that he met the Cybermen in it which gave me visions of a Frontier in space retread with cybermen instead of Daleks but in the end we got a War Games and Deadly Assassin/Invasion of Time style story instead! Nowadays I see it's faults as many as there are but back on the night with my VHS recorder ready to go... JB

Mostly fun and entertaining but I always found it a little disappointing, no Tom Baker and the Doctors kept apart til the end.

23:40 - and JN-T gives his opinion on the extended "Special Edition" of this story..... The brutal honesty made me chuckle.

I often wondered what had happened to those figurines from The Five Doctors...TwitterA poster on Mondas claimed a friend of his owned them at one point, had the full set after tracking down the Master figure that JNT had given away after falling out with Anthony Ainley - but going by the photo it seems to have gone missing again...
