I know that this story has it's fans and admirers, but I just find it a load of convoluted nonsense - and the wrong side of pretentious for my liking.
Maybe am missing something very clever indeed at work here - but I just don't see it. Maybe my loss and I am always willing to give this story another viewing, just in case.....

Bit of a weird one but I must confess, this is one my favourite McCoy's. Had a kind of Sapphire and Steel feel to it.

"That's the way to the zoo,That's the way to the zoo,The monkey house is nearly full but there's room enough for you. Take the bus to Regent's Park, make haste, before it shuts,Next Monday I will come and bring you such a lot of nuts!"I love that song and I love Ghostlight completely - somehow Doctor Who and the Victorian Age go together very well. A wonderfully weird, surreal haunted house story about Darwinian evolution, Victorian morality, the British Empire, Angelic aliens and Ace's darkest fears, Ghostlight is certainly one of the highlights of the McCoy years, even if it is a bit of a puzzle. Great cast (Frank Windsor, Sylvia Simms) and nicely atmospheric incidental music, too. 9/10

I like this one. You really have to concentrate to follow what’s going on and I found myself thinking about it long after I watched it.

Hmm. The commentaries are full of niggles about this, niggles about that and general moaning I felt. Still a confusing watch for me and another step in the Doctor's darker side. Sylv definitely COULD NOT do 'loud and shouty' as it totally spoils the effect for me. Dark, mysterious and sinister, definitely! I didn't know that this was actually the last 'classic' story shot, the cast at the wrap party not realising that they'd not return the next year My huge moan is that the BBC obviously wanted this series gone (probably too way out and mature by this time for little kiddies - Hell, I was in my thirties by this point), so they put it up against Coronation Street, which was enjoying a huge resurgence and with a storyline still talked about today. No catch-up or iPlayer back then, so the terribly low (for then) viewing figures helped their collective decision to end it. Later NuWho post Smith, wouldn't have stood a chance with similar viewing patterns I suspect. Sylv is barely here with only a few DVD commentaries to his name either and once again, the tone of these has become so downbeat to me. One more to go and that's it for my classic series re-watch. I might cherry-pick the B&W stories again for the commentaries I may well have missed first time around and then the TV movie. Onwards from that, I want to watch UFO again before even thinking about early NuWho!!!
