Yes she was, according to the article below she also applied for the role of Zoe: www.shannonsullivan.com/drwho/serials/ss.html"Instead, auditions for the part were held in early February 1968. Amongst the more than one hundred applicants was Susan George who, at the time, was dating Jamie McCrimmon actor Frazer Hines." The article also claims that Peter Bryant asked Pauline Collins to play Zoe.

Susan George on that beach with Fraser as they were an item at the time and she seems to be enjoying herself too! Strange that she never took a role on the show with Fraser later on too... JB

I can't fault this story at all, so I gave it a 10. Reason for this is simple, it's the one story I remember watching all the way through with my uncle and it scared the hell out of me!!! I know the animation was poor but it can't distract me from my original memories and feelings, the animation only helps drag up the emotion I felt on first transmission. Apart from Power 1, this is the only story that I want found or returned, even one episode would do. For those who don't remember this story when they were youngsters, the return of one episode would reveal the incredible atmosphere that was captured on film. Regards HGL.

I love this story, but too young to have ever seen it. As a Doctor Who fan I genuinely don't know what situation is worse. Would it be to never see classic stories like this, Power, Marco etc where no episodes have survived? Or is it the flipside of the coin? Of having seen these missing black and white episodes, to have vivid memories of them, but to never have the opportunity to see them again. To know whether those memories were as good as you remember. I swear if I'd been around in the 60s, to be old enough to have seen those missing black and white stories, the frustration of not being able to see those images again would be worse than never having seen them.

Yes, the frustration is at times extremely painful, especially when i want other proper fans to see and feel how i felt at that time. It's not difficult to switch back your mind set to when you were younger, so you can appreciate how magical a time the sixties were. There's many a fan who remembers the early Pertwee or Tom Baker transmissions and when watching today, insert those early emotions, well, i'm assuming that's the case? It adds a certain uniqueness to the viewing experience. Another reason why i get more angry than is healthy when, A. The junkings, especially of milestone stories were allowed to happen. B. The efforts apart from Planet 55 and Cosgrove Hall when animating are piss poor with little or no respect for the original.!!! "I'll get me coat " Regards HGL.

I feel ancient saying this, but I do have quite distinct memories of watching Fury from The Deep (I remember telling my Mum about the 'washing up liquid monster') and I'm glad I saw it even if it's now missing. It is frustrating never being able to see those old episodes again, particularly as Fury is such a marvelous serial but at least we still have the audio, photos, recons and an animation to enjoy (even if the animation style isn't one I particularly like). Above all, I'm happy that Patrick Troughton was my Doctor - imagine going through life having to say; " Jodie Whittaker was my Doctor!"

Sadly I don’t remember Fury, my first solid memories of Doctor Who being the last two episodes of The Wheel in Space, although I have a very fuzzy memory of what I think is episode 1 of Power.
I used to watch it religiously from behind the sofa, but very little memory of what was scaring me.
Troughton is my Doctor too, but I have clearer memories of Pertwee.

I guess the best way I can look at it is to take my favourite story of all time (Earthshock), imagine that it got wiped after transmission in 1982 - that video recorders weren't around, and the repeat of Earthshock never happened later that same year - and try to imagine how it would feel to have those memories of a fantastic, exciting story in my head but never able to see it again. To find out if those images that I still had about Earthshock were as great as I remembered or if the memory cheats. It's so tragic that the early stories have been devastated like this. I'm sure I'd be a huge fan of Fury if I could see it. The audio is great.
