Episode 2:The sidelining of Ben and Polly is painfully obvious as Jamie comes to the fore and Pauline Collins makes an appearance as Samantha Briggs. Anneke Wills and Michael Craze were contracted up to episode 3 of Evil of the Daleks. There is no real need for the air hostess Ann Davidson (Gilly Fraser) - the role could have been played by Anneke Wills as Michelle Leuppi throughout all six episodes instead? At a stretch Michael Craze could have replaced the Jenkins character (Christopher Tranchell) for the scenes aboard the Chameleon's ship.

I've enjoyed watching this again, but THREE DISCS??? I suppose the discs themselves aren't or weren't expensive to manufacture and of course in the era of Blu-Ray, all of it'll fit on one BR disc anyway (so why do these discs cost more I wonder??? ). Not sure I like the animation much and how dare they ruin Wanda Ventham's features so much Colouring is one thing, but you need to spend the investment dosh on getting the fundamentals right surely? Pauline Collins looks older middle aged in the animation instead of the young 'dolly' she was back then (I'm not being sexist, just can't find a better word to use). As to the story, it's of its time in terms of length, so allowed to meander a bit in my opinion. Ben and Polly are hardly used and then they basically go off in a rushed scene at the end and never to be seen again. Such is the way of Doctor Who companion farewells.. Thanks Anneke for staying in touch with the series, conventions, DVD commentaries and so on and r.i.p. to Michael Craze who may have contributed too had he still been with us. Yeah, I liked it and am eagerly looking forward to the story that followed it - OH YES INDEEDY I'll need to catch up on The Macra Terror that's just arrived first though
