Just watching it now every evening and an episode at a time. That bloody 'heartbeat' freaked me out as a kid and did exactly the same as a sixty six year old!!! Not sure I liked the way Ben was shown to be easily manipulated mentally but the others weren't, but maybe that's just me. I also suspect that the animation takes some good liberties with the backgrounds over the original (memory is so hazy as I really didn't much care for the story originally as I was a bit traumatised by it)
The whole Big Brother thing may well be derivative, but it's scary to see a much diluted version of this happening right now, with often dumbed down TV, everyone living on their phones and recent stories regarding well known TV presenters taking precedence over godawful things happening behind the scenes in our economy and markets (apparently). Just my jottings before finishing the story, watching any extras and then all but burying the DVD for quite a while...

It wasn’t until the animated version came out that I noticed how bloody noisy this whole story is. After a while it all gets a bit irritating. The Macra are crap and there much better Troughtons IMO. Must admit, try as I might I could never take to this story. Think a lot of it is to do with (apart from it being missing) the soundtrack. Those bloody awful jingles and tunes really grate.
