Polly was a reassuring presence in the programme (or rather in "The Cybermen" novelisation by Gerry Davis) in that I confidently knew that all I had to do was bung some nail varnish thinner in a spray bottle to defeat an entire Cyber-army.

I really liked Polly - she's cool and the very epitome of the Swinging '60s Dolly Bird (and for me, the nicest looking of the Hartnell/Troughton companions). I particularly love the way she's introduced in Episode 1 of The War Machines as a 'cracking typist' and doesn't say anything, just reacts by pulling a comical face. This brief scene is both quirky and funny.
