So sad. A terrific age, just 5 months short of 100. We have lost another legend 😢

Awfully sad news. Can you imagine the first few years of Dr Who without Ian ? He was an integral part of the original team - the Golden Age of Who. "Now listen, you two. What victory are you going to show these people when most of them have been killed? A fluid link? Is this what you're going to hold up to them and say, 'Thank you very much. This is what you fought and died for'?"The Daleks: The Expedition R.I.P. William Russell.

This really hits hard.
I was too young to remember Ian and Barbara when Doctor Who started, and it was only through the video and DVD's that I got to know them, as well as The First Doctor and Susan, later Vicki and Steven.
William Russell was incredibly likeable as Ian, more so than Roy Castle's version of the character, who was the first "Ian" I saw
The chemistry between Bill Hartnell, William Russell, Jacqueline Hill and Carol Ann Ford, and later Maureen O'Brien, was brilliant.
The first TARDIS team's likability over came the short comings of Dr Who's lack of budget, with their combined believability as real people.
Funny how you can feel loss for someone you don't actually know.

It always seemed nuts to me that Russell never returned to the show during its original run.
After all, he WAS the original HERO on the show. (NOT "The Doctor".)
